Every employee takes a person-centered approach that exemplifies the ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) through empathic communication and partnerships between all persons.Work Shifts8:00 A.M - 4:00 P.MJob DescriptionPurpose of Position:The Nurse Practitioner in the Options Center of the OBGYN Department works along with physicians assessing the physical and clinical status of patients seeking miscarriage management and abortion services by means of interviews, health history, physical examinations and diagnostic tests of the patient. In accordance with medical protocols, he/she evaluates test findings, makes an initial medical diagnosis, and initiates appropriate action to facilitate the implementation of the therapeutic plan consistent with the continuing health care needs of the patient. The Nurse Practitioner works within the scope of regulatory agency standards policies and procedures as set forward by Health and Hospitals.Areas of Responsibilities: OBGYN Options CenterSummary of Duties and Responsibilities:Provides care to OB/GYN patients seen in the Options CenterObtain health history and relevant demographic data from patient, family member or guardian.Access physical and psychological health status of individuals and families, through history taking and physical examination.Performs complete assessment of presenting symptoms/screening questions Performs sonogramsOrders routine imaging and laboratory tests.Interprets the result of tests and initiates further action, as necessary.Evaluates findings of the health assessment in collaboration with physicians and other health professionals in order to make decisions about treatment.Inform patients of treatment alternatives.Request appropriate consultations.Orders medicationsAdjust medication within accepted corporation protocolsInitiate referrals to other hospital departments or community agencies as required.Collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary team in order to determine, evaluate and attain health goals.Record and maintain a system of patients' progress notes to plan program management and therapy appropriate to the needs of the patient.Provide follow-up appointments and track missed appointments in accordance with written policyPerforms first trimester abortion procedures under the supervision of collaborating attendings and then independently when threshold criteria for independent management are met.Initiate and participate in quality improvement programsParticipate in health promotion and health fair activities.Provide clinical and didactic instruction to professional staff, students and community groups and conducts in-service educational programs.Interpret and recommends revision in policies and protocols affecting nurse practitioner services and participates in program evaluation.Initiate and participate in studies and research related to nurse practitioner services, healthcare and allied fields.Seeks assistance and guidance in performance of duties, as necessaryMinimum Qualifications1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and2. Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED; and3.
