Nursery Operations Assistant - Intervale Center/VHCB

Serving as the Nursery Operations Assistant, you'll help propagate and grow tens of thousands of native trees and shrubs for conservation projects statewide and engage volunteers to help grow the conservation movement. This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps). The VHCB AmeriCorps program supports the innovative dual-goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape. The Intervale Center's mission is to strengthen community food systems that sustain farms, land, and people. We envision a future where diverse farms and food producers thrive, the natural environment is healthy, and all people are nourished. Our work is guided by three overarching goals: 1) Support farming and food production that balance the needs of people and the planet; 2) Protect and steward the natural environment as the foundation of our food system; and 3) Advance the movement to strengthen community food systems. The Intervale Center has grown to become a leader in the community food systems movement, and we strive to not just strengthen aspects of the food system, but to engage and build community as much as possible. Position begins May 17th, 2025 ends August 29th, 2025. This position is Quarter Time: Requires 460 hours of service for an average of 40 hours per week for 12 weeks. Member will receive a living allowance of $7,943 (pre-tax), and an education award of $1,956.35 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Member Duties : Seed and cutting collection; plant propagation and green house service tasks Field maintenance including weeding, irrigation, transplant and harvest of native trees Leading and organizing groups of volunteers at the nursery; serving alongside of University of Vermont interns and work-study students Land stewardship responsibilities including invasive species removal and beautification of the Intervale Center. Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Trainings, Service Days, Events, and Program Initiatives. Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities. Attending Intervale Center staff meetings as appropriate Coordinating with volunteer groups to facilitate smooth volunteer experience; tracking volunteer hours Participate in Disaster Relief Services and projects
