Organization: SLH-Sutter Lakeside Hospital Position Overview: Performs routine patient care, support and services in accordance with the legal scope of practice and within established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Integrates education, technical competence and patient interaction skills to gain confidence and cooperation from the patient, their family/support group, and other healthcare providers. Exercises sound judgment, and developed clinical skills to support the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis in a timely manner. JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES: NURSING SERVICES * Provides appropriate, direct patient care to patients. * Performs selected procedures, which may include: taking vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure), setting-up and disinfecting of dialysis machines, collecting specimens, admission, transfer and discharge procedures. * Provides basic patient care relating to nutrition, elimination, hygiene and mobility. * Ensures that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames. * Maintains equipment and understands procedures and treatments performed by physicians. * Explains and educates the patient on process of examinations, tests and medical procedures in a clear and professional manner to alleviate fear and anxiety. * Mentors and fosters a constructive environment that helps students and new NAs build confidence in their skills, knowledge and abilities. CLERICAL * Performs general clerical tasks, such as answering phones; updating patient appointments; or retrieving, entering, and revising patient electronic health records (EHR). * Prepares and completes accurate documentation related to patient, including all treatment performed, in medical and departmental records as required. SAFETY * Maintains a clean, neat, and safe working environment, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment after each procedure. * Inspects and calibrates equipment accordingly for proper operation and records the quality control (QC) results, reporting any malfunctions to the supervisor. COMPLIANCE * Maintains strictest confidence of all patient protected health information (PHI) and protects all PHI from accidental, intentional, or inappropriate disclosure. * Performs quality care in compliance with department standards, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulatory agencies to deliver the highest level of patient privacy and care. * Prepares, administers, and documents medications and treatments in accordance with state and federal regulations. * Retains certification and completes mandated continuing education requirements to meet facility and regulatory agencies accreditation and licensure requirements. EDUCATION: HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE: BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider DEPARTMENT REQUIRED CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE Departments delivering hemodialysis: CNHEMO-Certified Hemodialysis Technician SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrated knowledge of basic patient care skills, clinic procedures, and equipment. Knowledge of appropriate emergency care for role (i.e. chest compressions, dialing 911) Ability to follow instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology. Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain patient care information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people. Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline. General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook). Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions. Identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options. DEPARTMENT REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE Departments delivering hemodialysis: Demonstrated knowledge of dialysis water quality per AAMI (American Academy of Medical Instrumentation) Standards Departments delivering hemodialysis: Capable of providing necessary immediate interventions managing dialysis complications, as allowed by scope of practice. Pay Range is $25.65 to $30.76 / hour The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
