Summary:

+ The Professional Development Specialist- Nursing Community Engagement (PDS-NCE), is responsible for programmatic leadership of nursing community engagement activities and/or programs. To do this, the PDS-NCE is responsible for identifying opportunities to further develop HUP's nursing presence in the communities we serve. These decisions will be made based on HUP organizational priorities, and results of the Office of Government Affairs Community Health Needs Assessment, as well as qualitative feedback obtained from nurses. Additionally, the PDS-NCE is responsible for galvanizing the nurses at all levels at HUP to positively impact population heath in Philadelphia as demonstrated through improved HUP outcomes. The PDS-NCE has flexibility to act as a mentor, consultant, project manager, implementer and/or educator depending on initiative.

Responsibilities:

+ Conduct periodic assessment of community engagement needs at least every year and provide recommendations for future program advancement based on assessment and data analysisDevelop and execute education and professional development activities for nurses at all levels within the organization on fundamentals of community engagement and partnershipEngage nurses at all levels in programmatic, strategic community engagement activities to improve the overall health and wellbeing of our communityGather and assess data to support the ongoing progress of nursing community engagement programsCollaborate with the Penn Medicine Office of Government Affairs, and other Penn Medicine entities to identify the HUP nursing contribution in addressing the Community Health Needs Assessment.Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing (SON) and partner to co-lead community initiativesPartner with University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing to facilitate student community course experiencesPartner with Community Leaders and Organizations as neededEvaluate factors such as safety, effectiveness, availability, costs and benefits for learners and for the communityEnsure HUP nursing representation and bidirectional communication in local, regional, and national professional organizations that address community engagementLead HUP CPR instructor led courses and develop and maintain a 3 pronged CPR initiative focusing on HUP Employees, Patients/Families and Community MembersProactively ensure that work aligns with ANCC Magnet Requirements and can be used to fulfill relevant Magnet Standards.

Credentials:

+ Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)

+ Registered Nurse - PA (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

+ MSN (Required)

+ And 3-5 years of relevant Nursing Community Engagement ActivitiesEducation Specialization: Nursing, from an accredited school of Nursing

+ Experience in Public Health
