Posting DetailsPosition Information Position Title Nursing Scholars of Promise (NSP) Program Mentor Job Description Join the Nursing Department at Missouri Western State University (MWSU) in an exciting new position: The Nursing Scholars of Promise (NSP) Program Mentor. The NPS Program Mentor supports and guides students in meeting their educational and professional goals. This individual serves as an advisor, role model, and advocate for Nursing Scholars. This position requires close collaboration with Mosaic Life Care Health System to: a) facilitate recruitment of student participants into the NSP program; b) support NSP students' academic success through the BSN program at MWSU; and c) guide their employment transitions at Mosaic Life Care Health System as they progress through the NSP program. This is a full-time position at MWSU, reporting to the Chair of the Department of Nursing.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Work with Missouri Western State University (MWSU) and Mosaic to market the Nursing Scholars of Promise (NSP) program
  • Recruit and retain high-achieving students to the NSP program
  • Direct the application and selection process for the NSP program
  • Conduct a program orientation for NSP students
  • Identify and adopt a formal mentoring framework to guide the mentoring relationship.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled mentoring and academic advising meetings with mentees
  • Support academic success of mentees
  • Nurture personal and professional growth of mentees, including developing professional networks
  • Serve as a role model to mentees
  • Act as a liaison between mentees, clinical partners, and MWSU Nursing program/faculty
  • Support transition to professional nursing practice and acculturation to the healthcare system
  • Collect, evaluate and report outcomes of Nursing Scholars of Promise participants
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous Nursing/Healthcare, Academic Advising, and/or Teaching Experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with local healthcare systems and professionals
  • Basic understanding of nursing education and the nursing profession
  • Ability to identify and connect to resources that support student success and personal and professional development
  • Understanding of effective goal-setting and evaluation frameworks
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including experience with professional networking
  • Experience with implementation of strategies for academic success, including time-management and study techniques
  • Familiarity with identifying and developing opportunities for personal and professional growth
  • Experience coaching individuals, guiding them through the development of learning and career goals and the process of critical reflection, as well as providing constructive, meaningful feedback
  • Able to facilitate problem-solving and formation of solutions
  • Able to provide accurate and timely academic advisement
  • Detail oriented and strong time management
  • Ability to advocate for others and program needs
  • Ability to review data and make evidence-based decisions to prepare program reports and assist in guiding program improvement
  • Maintains a professional and ethical demeanor
  • Prioritize listening
  • Able to be supportive, encouraging, and empathetic when interacting with mentees
  • Ability to perform duties free from bias while ensuring fairness, equity, and respect for individuals

  • Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications
  • Formal knowledge, education, and/or training in mentoring relationships and programs is preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Positions in this classification typically require: balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
FLSA Exempt Additional Demands
  • Travel and evening/weekend hours may be necessary for recruiting events and/or meetings with the clinical partner
