Job Details: Summary of Job Purpose
- The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the delivery for patient care through communication, resource coordination, personnel development, and data collecting/reporting during evening, night, and weekend shifts. Participates in intra- and interdepartmental planning when changes relate to these shifts. Nursing Supervisor oversees and interfaces with patients, staff and physicians and is the acting administrator on off hours.
Essential Job Responsibilities

- Communication-promote positive consumer relations and quality health care by: conveying caring through therapeutic listening and responding; mediating effective conflict resolution; interacting supportively with patients and significant others, Hospital staff, management, administration, and physicians. Sharing information objectively and constructively; performs as a Hospital liaison with medical staff and community.
- Personnel development-promotes patient centered behaviors by: providing theoretical knowledge and teaching clinical skills; guiding role development, including critical thinking, responsibility and accountability; acting as information resource reference; collaborating with clinical managers about staff evaluations.
- Resource coordination and allocation-promotes effective/efficient Hospital operations by: monitoring and adjusting nursing staffing, using patient management acuity system data and clinical observations; assuring optimal patient placement by directing evening/night/weekend bed control decisions; coordinating responses to emergencies, including all categories or codes.
- Data collection/reporting-promotes effective decision making and supports regulatory requirements by: maintaining accurate, timely data for PMS acuity system; documenting actual utilization of nursing personnel; identifying and communicating quality of care issues, infection control information, safety and security hazards, and reportable occurrences.
- Planning/implementation-promotes organizational growth and effective change by: participating in coordination of administrative supervisor role; assuming responsibility for special projects; participating in PCS and Hospital committee activities.
- Supplemental services-delegate and/or performs tasks required for continuity of patient care, when services are not available from department of responsibility including: IV Therapy, Medical Records, Pharmacy (within regulatory guidelines), Central Supply, EKG, dietary, and others as required.
Essential Job Qualifications
- Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BS and/or MS in nursing strongly preferred
- Experience:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. Minimum of three years clinical nursing experience and one year management experience preferred. Membership in a professional organization suggested.
