Come join our dynamic nutrition team to cover Nutrition Assistant duties on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4-7 pm and every other Sunday afternoon. Additional shifts available to be picked up on a per diem basis.Under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian and Clinical Nutrition Manager, the Nutrition Assistant performs a variety of duties pertaining to the delivery of high quality, personalized nutritional care to all patients. The Nutrition Assistant is responsible for upholding and enforcing standards and policies as set forth by the hospital and the department.PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* The primary responsibility of this position is assisting patients with ordering meals over telephone (room service), entering patient meal orders into HealthTouch (computer software program), and assuring meals are nutritiously sound within the patient's ordered diet.* Assists patients with menu choices that fit within diet restrictions.* Adjusts patient meal selections to comply with diet and with MD/RD/RN instructions.* Ensures that all patients receive nourishment at each meal; notifies RN when this does not happen.* Communicates regularly with clinical and production teams (patient issues, special orders, need for diet education, etc).* Follows department procedures for ordering supplements and enteral nutrition support products.* Provides excellent customer service.* Other duties/responsibilities for the position include:* May assist with assembling or passing trays to patients. Complies with department standards for meal delivery and set-up. Completes regular and therapeutic diet menus according to standards of care and department standards. Assists tray line staff and supervisor as needed.* Conducts meal rounds and tray assessments as assigned. Reports issues and complaints. Rectifies any issues as needed.* Recognizes and performs duties that need to be completed.* Attends department meetings, monthly in-services, training classes, etc as assigned.* Responsible for upholding and enforcing standards and policies as set forth by the hospital and the department.Grade: 110Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, an affiliate of Mass General Brigham, is committed to supporting patient care, research, teaching, and service to the community. Our employees call it home.EDUCATION:High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:* Adheres to all ICARE Standards.* Must be able to read, write and clearly speak English.* Ability to push food carts.* Ability to pleasantly and effectively multi-task.* Must have basic computer skills in order to be able to use various computer programs/systems within the hospital.* Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.EXPERIENCE:Healthcare experience including patient contact is preferred.Prior experience with customer service is preferred.WORKING CONDITIONS:* Fast-paced environment in which employee must be able to juggle multiple tasks.* Sitting for long periods of time to answer phones and take patient orders.* Must be able to read standard size font of Diet Office meal-ordering software.
