Nutrition Services Assistant - 3 hours per day QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or Equivalent required. For Part-time employees: successful completion of the Child Nutrition Training Classes 1 - 4 required within a three year period. For Full-time employees: successful completion of Classes 1 - 6 required within a four year period. Demonstrated ability to read, write, and to speak English and to understand and follow directions in English. Demonstrated ability to do simple mathematics. Desire and aptitude for working with children. Desire and aptitude for working as a team. Neat and clean personal appearance. Adherence to dress code. Excellent work history, including demonstrated excellent attendance. State of Delaware criminal reference check. JOB GOAL: Performs responsibilities, as assigned, to ensure that students, staff, and guests are served appetizing and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and friendliness. PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties and rotations are assigned by the manager of the individual school(s). Preparation:
- Preparation of food, including the main entree, baked goods, desserts, salads, sandwiches, special event menus, or other items under the direction of the manager or cook.
- Follows standardized recipes
Serving:
- Supplies and restocks the serving line with food and supplies.
- Practices excellent customer service in the service of meals to students and adults.
- Keeps line moving smoothly and swiftly.
- Keeps serving areas and counters clean and sanitized at all times.
- Practices portion control.
Sanitation/Dishwashing
- Prepares dishwasher for operation.
- Frequently checks dishmachine for acceptable wash and rinse temperatures. Records temperatures and reports problems to manager.
- May work at the receiving window and wash or load dishes into the machine or may work at the terminal end of the machine removing dishes, trays, and flatware.
- Washes pots and pans utilizing proper procedures.
- Restocks service or preparation areas with clean dishes, etc.
- Cleans and sanitizes dishmachine and dishroom.
- Delimes dishmachine weekly, as scheduled by the manager.
Cashier:
- Prepares cash register prior to meal service.
- Takes money for daily purchases and enters money on student/staff accounts; accurately accounts for each transaction (following school food service program regulations), counts money, verifies receipts with the manager.
- Records free and reduced price meals served.
- Maintains confidentiality of students' meal benefit status.
Cleaning:
- Properly cleans and sanitizes equipment.
- Is responsible for cleaning of all work areas used as well as the general kitchen, as assigned.
- Appropriately uses chemicals/cleaning supplies for safe and effective cleaning/sanitation.
- As assigned, may do day-end computer procedure.
- Maintains a record of all food and supplies used each day.
- In the absence of the Manager, Assistant Manager, and Cook, may serve as the PIC (Person In Charge) as specified by the Delaware Department of Public Health.
- Follows all regulations, policies, and procedures relating to safety, sanitation, personal hygiene, and the district nutrition services program.
- Properly operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner, utilizing safety features, equipment, and procedures, as appropriate.
- Attends and participates in training programs/workshops for continuing education purposes.
- Assists with other duties as assigned by the Nutrition Services Manager and Supervisor.
