PURPOSE STATEMENT
The food service assistant performs routine duties in the preparation and serving of food and assists in maintaining sanitary conditions of the school dining and kitchen facilities for breakfast, lunch and snacks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist in preparation of various food items according to production records, kitchen manager instructions, and food safety guidelines.
Assist in the panning and wrapping of prepared food.
Fill milk cooler and condiment containers; set up utensils, napkins, trays and other serving items before meal times.
Set up salad bars, serving tables and warming carts for serving meals to provide nutrition for educational achievement.
Serve meals and ala carte items to students and staff; serve appropriate quantities; present food attractively; assist students in assembling meals on trays.
Operate the Skyward Meal Module point of sale system for meal service and ala carte sales; receive payments and assist in cash reconciliation.
Assist in monitoring and recording food and kitchen equipment temperatures daily.
Clean and wipe down serving and meal areas between meal periods; refill containers and serving items.
Clean carts, tables and other food serving areas after meal periods; wash dishes, pots and pans; store equipment; sweep and mop floors; assist with laundry; empty garbage.
Clean refrigerator, freezers, kitchen equipment, dish area, storage areas, shelves and other areas; assist with freight.
Assist in completion of production records and reports.
Assist with closing the kitchen; turn off equipment and lights; ensure doors are closed and/or locked.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
Move into serving cook position when capable and necessary.
May assist in ordering food and supplies.
May serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams.
Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Nutrition Services Director. Receives direction and guidance from the building Kitchen Manager as appropriate.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Required to work with students and staff in a positive and service oriented manner.
May experience shifts in work schedule according to building usage and need.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Required to stand for prolonged periods of time.
Ability to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
Must be able to perform tasks requiring moderate to heavy physical exertion.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
State of Washington Food and Beverage Service Worker's Permit issued by a County Health Department.
Experience as a substitute food service assistant or other related food service experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Accurate record keeping skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the public.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Requires fingerprinting and background check.
Must complete Walla Walla Public Schools Risk Management and Bloodborne Pathogens Training upon hire.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Food Service Assistant on the Classified Salary Schedule A
5.5 hours per day (3.5 hours at Green Park and then 2 hours at Wa-Hi), 5 days per week, 189 days per school year; PSE Negotiated Agreement Salary Range, Retirement, SEBB Benefits, 9 Holidays, Paid Sick Leave
