Ensuresthat all meals and snacks meet federal, state, and local nutrition standards and guidelines. The Nutrition Services Manager works collaboratively with staff, parents, and community partners to promote healthy eating habits and nutrition education. Support to develop and implement strategies and processes that create a clear and concise pathway to nutrition outcomes metrics. Along with the Senior Director of Support Services, developing, planning, evaluation, organizing metrics and impact data to bring about the successful design and completion of strategic initiatives and projects. The Manager will lead a team dedicated to delivering high-quality services, ensuring nutrition programs are accessible, engaging and effective in meeting the diverse needs of children and families. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise food service staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Leads self and others by demonstrating the ability to pivot and respond to unpredictable, disruptive, and ambiguous situations.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of nutrition services staff and volunteers, fostering a positive work environment and promoting professional growth.
  • Develop processes, tools, and techniques used to advance desired organizational outcomes and manage change effectively.
  • Plans, develops, implements and monitors programs, goals and objectives.
  • Create, implement, and report on interim and annual goals, objectives, and deadlines.
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and other essential documents and correspondence as required by funding sources and Marillac St. Vincent Family Services.
  • Ensures that systems are in place and monitors compliance with procedures for maintenance of confidentiality of data.
  • Implement corrective actions as needed to address any deficiencies.
  • Participate in grant funding applications to the appropriate agencies.
  • Collaborate with Development team for fundraising opportunities to assist in the provision of funds to scale, operate, and maintain programming.
  • Communicates relevant information pertaining to nutrition services and ensures information is cascaded to the proper channels within the team in particular.
  • Manages the financial resources of the program(s) to accomplish the program objectives within the established guidelines.
  • Participates in the development and management of the program budget, including monitoring, and approving program expenses. Ensures that the operating expenses are well within the prescribed limits of the budget plans and fiscal guidelines.
  • Participate in hiring, performance reviews, leaves, promotions, salary changes, terminations, and documentation of all personnel actions.
  • Participate in annual program self-assessment.
  • Participate in the community needs assessment process, to determine program design options, needs, and opportunities in collaboration with Senior Director of Support Services.
  • Serve as the lead for the monitoring and implementation of all nutrition services for children and their families enrolled in early childhood education and youth programs.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for nutrition education and training for the staff and parents/guardians regarding food and nutrition principles for food services.
  • Coordinate and conduct all activities related to monitoring functions of the centers participating on the Child & Adult Care Food Program (ISBE).
  • Complete and submit annual CACFP re-certification applications. Including the annual Food Participation parents form due July 1st of each year.
  • Oversee the annual CACFP review and audit and provide information as required.
  • Training.
  • Provide educational staff training as needed regarding meal participation.
  • Provide limited on-site program monitoring, training, and technical assistance.
  • Promote healthy eating habits and provide resources and information to families about nutrition and healthy lifestyles.
  • Assess community health/nutrition resources. Monitor Parents and center bulletin board to ensure food programs information and flyers are current including information about WIC.
  • Provide support to the Head Cooks with creating quarterly menus.
  • Review monthly menus to ensure they meet USDA and CACFP guidelines, culturally appropriate, dietary needs of children, including those with special dietary requirements and allergies.
  • Ensure staff compliance with food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Present menus to the Parent Policy Council quarterly for approval
  • Conduct observations of each site regarding the nutrition content area, which is being taught, make recommendations and suggestions as needed regarding: Family style, Roundtable toothbrushing, menus posted, list of children with food allergies/preference, size portions provided to the children. Further observations can be requested by site directors.
  • Conduct nutritional assessments and track the nutritional status of children.
  • Collaborate with health, education, and support staff to address any identified nutritional concerns.
  • Present nutrition information to the Parents Center Committee meetings as needed.
  • Track and oversee food service budget. Approve requisitions for food service purchases before orders are done by the Head Cooks - by maintaining an inventory.
  • Coordinate community partnerships that support the nutrition and well-being of the children and families served, to include healthy cooking classes, access to fresh fruits and vegetables, opportunities to address specific nutrition needs, and other opportunities as identified by the families served. In addition, work with other content areas team to coordinate this type of services for the families.
  • Oversee contract for nutrition education, training, and counseling as appropriate from RD consultants.
  • Provide ongoing training and professional development for staff on nutrition-related topics.
  • Participate in the multidisciplinary meetings (staffing) regarding children with suspected or confirm food allergies or nutrition concerns to ensure nutrition plans and nutrition needs are met.
  • Working with the health team and Family Support Specialist (FSS) Review individual child and family nutrition data and develops individual nutrition plans if nutritional needs are not being met or recently identified.
  • Develop appropriate systems and supports from the consultants to identify families who are not meeting their nutritional needs to secure consistent, healthy meals that meet the needs of the children and families.
Standard Responsibilities
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures as outlined in the Marillac St. Vincent Family Services Employee Handbook.
  • Ensure nutrition program comply with local, state, and federal regulations and organizational policies.
  • Participates in supervision, coaching and staff meetings as required by department.
  • Attends required professional development and trainings.
  • Define employee roles and develop protocols to maintain process efficiencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, or a related field required or
  • Possess a current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of American Dietitian Association (RD) or,
  • State of Illinois Licensing Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) or
  • A Master's degree (MPH or MS) from an approved program in Public Health Nutrition.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing staff and volunteers in a diverse and dynamic environment.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing successful nutrition program.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in health, child safety and/or nutrition program areas required.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills to establish and maintain rapport and professional relationships with co-workers, team members, and families enrolled in services. Ability to relate to a diverse population.
  • Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills to effectively address varied audiences.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, collaborative environment and builds positive relationships with participants, staff, various levels of management, community-based organizations, funders, and government agencies.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, conflict-resolution skills, and make effective decisions under pressure.
  • Manage crisis situations in a calm and effective manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, with the ability to handle daily responsibilities and projects with minimal direct supervision.
  • Demonstrates initiative, consistent follow-through, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, videoconference software and client electronic data systems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of child-care options, quality child-care environments, and community resources.
  • Additionally, proficient speaking, reading, and writing in a second language may be required based on program assignment.
  • Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills to convey information clearly and effectively with parents and staff.
Screenings:
  • The applicant must submit to a criminal background check and a child abuse and neglect screening and maintain a cleared status throughout employment.
  • The applicant must submit to and pass a TB and health screen, including MMR and Tdap immunizations upon hire and update TB/physicals as required by the licensing standards.
Additional Requirements
  • Extended work hours beyond 40 hours/week when necessary, including evenings, weekends and for special events.
  • Flexibility with schedule as requested.
  • Overnight trips may be required periodically.
