This position conducts the Congregate Nutrition Program services at the Carolina Beach satellite location. The Senior Congregate Nutrition Program is part of the larger SRC Nutrition Department which provides balanced meals to older adults aged 60+, as well as programming in a congregate setting. Additional congregate services include group fitness classes, social activities, and wellness programs. This is a 25 hour/week position. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work independently, provide excellent customer service, communicate with other staff and community partners, and have the inter-personal skills necessary to interact effectively with older adults. The candidate should be well-organized, able to manage a weekly/monthly calendar of events, have basic technology and computer skills, and the ability to problem solve and make critical decisions. Above all, the candidate should have an overwhelming desire to serve the citizens of our county. Essential Duties include:
- Registers eligible clients for the Congregate Program which includes assessing eligibility and nutritional risk; completing state-mandated forms; and conducting periodic reassessments.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises nutrition site volunteers.
- Coordinates with the on-staff Nutritionist and community partners to implement engaging programming focused on older adult wellness, including group fitness classes, cooking demos, pop-up farmers markets, and other opportunities for community-building and socialization.
- Creates a welcoming environment for all participants.
- Cleans and sanitizes all food serving and dining areas, maintaining required cleanliness standards for dining room space.
- Follows Federal and State Food Safety Codes, local Environmental Health regulations, NHC Senior Resource Center Policies and Procedures, and Home and Community Care Block Grant policies.
- Inspects and receives all food from caterer. Records food temperatures daily and maintains records.
- Assists with the daily serving of meals. Projects attendance and orders meals and supplies accordingly.
- Maintains accurate records of meals received by each participant at the nutrition site and enters data into Servtracker software program. Accurately completes daily turnaround documents.
- Completes and sends weekly report of data and activities to the SRC Main Location office.
Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of nutrition concepts, older adult nutrition, health and wellness topics, and environmental health/food safety regulations.
- Experience in programming planning and implementation; health promotion; fostering relationships with community partners;
- Experience entering data into software systems; and working with volunteers.

- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and two years of experience related to the program area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and iPhone usage
- Ability to become proficient in nutrition reporting software
- Excellent time management and multi-tasking abilities
- Capacity to lift up to 45 lbs. and remain active for over an hour
- Completion of a ServSafe certification course within the first month of employment
Licenses/Certifications
- Valid Driver's License (from any state) and good driving record required at time of application.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
- Must maintain a ServSafe Food Safety and Sanitation Certification
