Position Type: Student Nutrition ServicesDate Posted: 4/15/2024Location: OKCPS Operations Center - Student NutritionDuty Days: 245 Reports To: SNS Nutrition Manager FSLA Status: Exempt Compensation: 906 (Salary determined by experience) Work Days: 245 FTE: 100Nutrition SpecialistPosition Summary: Reads, interprets, and analyzes documents such as menus, nutritional facts, safety and sanitation procedures and compliance documents.**This position has been classified as Safety Sensitive in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act and/or the Department of Transportation (DOT), and Board Policy G-37-R3 Medical Marijuana & Safety Sensitive Positions Regulation. All candidates selected for hire or transferred into a Safety Sensitive position must undergo and pass a pre-employment drug screen before being hired or transferred. Employees holding safety-sensitive positions may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment, if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.**Essential Duties:
  • Assists and supports the overall management and operations of the district's School Nutrition Services (SNS) Department.
  • Establishes Student Nutrition Program as a resource for expertise in the development and presentation of nutrition education materials and activities.
  • Serves as a community resource in the area of nutrition education to parents, students, health service and other civic groups.
  • Conducts nutrition education classes at all levels for all schools.
  • Assesses customer preferences, industry trends, and current research to plan menus that encourages participation in the Student Nutrition Program.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, conducts and assists training of all SNS staff.
  • Monitors, researches, writes and applies for grants and opportunities.
  • Provides technical assistance and training for OKCPS employees and community.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, conducts and assists marketing initiatives of school nutrition.
  • Develops nutrition articles for local and national media and into the District's website.
  • Develops spreadsheets, tables, graphics and reports.
  • Conducts Summer Food Service Program, Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Program
  • Initiates Afterschool Snack Program and assists managing the Supper Program
  • Monitors Child and Adult Care Facility Program
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):
  • Bachelor's Degree in public health nutrition, dietetics, or food and nutrition required.
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to write reports and to maintain records accurately.
  • Applicants must have the ability to speak effectively and to present accurate information to customers, employees, and to the general public.
  • Knowledge and experience with implementing special dietary needs menus
  • Knowledge and experience with menu planning and nutrition education
  • Knowledge and experience with software applications (Microsoft Office Suite, or comparable application)
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Preferred):
  • Registered Dietitian preferred.
  • Current licensure in the State of Oklahoma preferred.
  • Classroom teaching experience is helpful.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
  • Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer
  • Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties
  • Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone
  • Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 50 pounds
  • Sitting for prolonged periods of time
  • May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines
