This position is for the 2024-25 School Year

$3,000 INCENTIVE BONUS! Chief Leschi Schools is offering a $3,000 incentive bonus for new special education teachers. This incentive is available to individuals who have not been employed by Chief leschi Schools within the past twelve months.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

WORKDAYS PER FISCAL YEAR: 180

ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

SUMMARY: The Occupational Therapist position provides direct therapy and/or consultative services to help qualifying students work as independently as possible in an academic setting by targeting fine motor and gross motor skills within the IEP process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

* Communicates clearly, both orally and in writing

* Organizes and conducts an identification program for occupational therapy services by utilizing appropriate evaluation criteria, materials, procedures and recordkeeping

* Consults with parents, staff and administration regarding student needs

* Selects and employs appropriate diagnostic procedures and develop guidelines for a comprehensive program

* Prepares IEP goals and objectives and maintains progress data to meet the individual needs of students receiving direct services from the occupational therapist

* Understands and complies with current legislation on children with disabilities

* Completes all required reports and records in a timely and accurate manner

* Provides supervision to certified occupational therapy assistants as per ethical and state guidelines

* Consults with school staff on appropriate practices for students with disabilities

* Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and as a member of a team providing motor services to students with disabilities

* Follows Code of Ethics and maintain a high standard of professional behavior

* Understands and follows Chief Leschi School policies and procedures regarding students with disabilities

* Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities

* Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Current state licensure as an Occupational Therapist

Current state certification as Washington State E.S.A. Occupational Therapist Certificate

One year recent computer experience with word processing, spreadsheet formatting, and email

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Current or recent experience working with Native Americans or other similar diverse populations Knowledge of or experience with:

AVID, Responsive Classroom, Trauma-Informed Practices, Restorative Practices, Project GLAD, Project Based Learning

Bachelor's degree in Education

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Best practices in teaching and learning

School board policies and procedures

ABILITY TO:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for long periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift.
