For over 45 forty-five years, our organization has provided mental health and holistic services in northern Manhattan for families, children, adolescents, and other adults including the elderly in a supportive and caring environment. We also have an out-patient and residential substance abuse program as well as a Therapeutic Preschool for 3-5 year olds. JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST PROGRAM: THERAPEUTIC PRESCHOOL HOURS: Approximately 10+ hours per week QUALIFICATIONS: Certification in Occupational Therapy; Pediatric experience preferred DUTIES: •Responsible for carrying out the Occupational Therapy goals on the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP). •Therapist is responsible for assessing and treating students with disabilities, maintaining daily session notes and attendance records, writing progress reports, attending IEP meetings, recommending adaptive equipment, environmental accommodations, or assistive technology. •In addition to these services provided to students on their caseloads, occupational therapists work collaboratively with teachers, other school staff and parents/guardians to serve the school community in a variety of ways. •These include: 1. Consultation with teachers to offer classroom-based strategies 2. Observations/push in support in classroom or other school environments 3. Attending meetings that support student programming (e.g. school meetings, parent meetings) 4. Activities that support students in the natural environment or general education curriculum 5. (e.g. social skills activities, classroom exercise routine, functional sensory motor activities, 6. handwriting program) 7. Drafting sensory diets to be implemented by school staff and at home 8. Staff in-service and professional development (e.g. in-service to teachers on developing fine motor centers, transfer training for paraprofessionals) 9. Providing assistance in environmental modifications, and adaptive equipment or devices 10. Recommending appropriate positioning so students can access instruction 11. Linking parents/guardians to appropriate community-based resources 12. Designing home exercise programs and related activities for carryover 13.
