JOB SUMMARYUses goal directed activities, exercises or techniques to maximize the client's functioning in life tasks, with the therapeutic application of physical and chemical agents as an adjunct. Evaluates patients' abilities and needs, establishes plan of care and goals to achieve the highest possible level of functional independence and decrease disability of each patient. Position reports to the Director of Physical Medicine and Rehab.SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (* = Essential Functions)1. Performs Initial Evaluations; Re-evaluations and treatments of Swing Bed Patients.2. Properly breaks down activities into achievable components. Ex: sequencing a complex task like cooking a meal.3. Consistently provides performance skills assessments of each patient and treatment. Examples of performance activites can be one or more of the following areas:Grooming; Oral hygiene; Bathing/showering; Toilet hygiene; Dressing; Feeding/eating4. Properly recommends adaptive equipment and usage training.5. Effective use of creative media as therapeutic activity.6. Consistently gives guidance to family members and caregivers.7. Properly performs environmental adaptation including provision of equipment or designing adaptations to remove obstacles or make them manageable.8. Effectively develops a monthly activity calendar that is meaningful and pertinent to our Swing Bed unit.9. Effectively instructs new ways to approach an ADL task with patients.10. Effectively develop and maintain a clinical affiliation with the local community colleges of Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant programs. - Hospital and Inpatient Rehab experience required.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree from an approved school of Occupational Therapy
License/Certifications/Skills:
- NYS OT License
- Current BLS Certification
