Position Purpose:

Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides appropriate intervention services designed to enhance student learning potential and participation in a variety of educational environments. Good communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to collaborate with the supervising OTR, educators, parents, and other school support staff. The COTA reports to the supervising OTR and Director of Pupil Personnel Services.

General Responsibilities Include:

* Contribute information to OTR for screenings; evaluations, developing measurable goals, and planning intervention.

* In collaboration with the OTR, implement therapeutic interventions that are educationally relevant and necessary.

* Communicate student's progress, present level of performance, and proposed recommendations with educational staff, parents, students, and other professionals or agencies as appropriate.

* Document all therapy services including daily contact notes, Medicaid billing when required, and draft progress summaries. Input information into CTSEDS.

* Maintain and submit time records for billing purposes on such activities as travel, direct/indirect services and prior approved projects.

* Seek input from OTR when required.

* Attend meetings as appropriate including IEP meetings.

* Maintain routine inspection of therapy equipment, order supplies, and maintain inventory. If products are damaged, discontinue use and seek repair or replacement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Graduation from an accredited Associates degree program and completion of all fieldwork educational requirements.

* Requires current professional certification with NBCOT and State of Connecticut License by the Department of Public Health.

* Minimum of two years of school experience preferred but not required.

* Must maintain knowledge of school system practice including influences of disabilities on learning and participation, laws and regulations, assessments, interventions and service delivery models.

Working Conditions

* Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Physical demands may include moving therapy equipment and helping lift or move students on and off equipment.

Supervision:

* A COTA is professionally responsible under the direct supervision of a licensed OTR and Director of Pupil Personnel Services.

Terms of Employment:

This is a 2-day per week position to begin at the start of the 2024-2025 school year. The range for this position is $35 to $42 per hour based on experience. There are no benefits associated with this position.
