Description*$500 Sign-on Bonus!*Options for Community Living, Inc. is looking for an Occupational Therapist Assistant to join our team! An ideal candidate should meet the following requirements:
  • Associate's degree in occupational therapy from a program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association required.
  • Minimum of one-year of experience serving individuals with severe and persistent mental illness or with developmental disabilities required.
  • Must be at least a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
  • Valid driver's license, safe driving record, access to a vehicle and valid auto insurance is required.

Salary Range: $58,500/yr. ($30/hour) - $68,250/yr. ($35/hour) Salary offers will be commensurate with experience and other qualifications. Schedule: Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm (37.5 hours/week) Location: In-person based out of our Ronkonkoma office, with field visits required Pay Type: Non-exempt Responsibilities: The Occupational Therapy (OT) Assistant will provide services that support mental and physical health and wellness, rehabilitation, habilitation, and recovery-oriented approaches. The OT Assistant delivers services that are designed to address barriers to optimal functioning through interventions that focus on enhancing existing skills, creating opportunities, promoting wellness, remediating or restoring skills, and modifying or adapting the environment or activity.
  • Conducts evaluations and provides training in activities of daily living, vocational-educational, and community living skills with residents and makes recommendations for individualized programs of instruction.
  • Selects, plans, and delivers programs of occupational therapy to individual residents and groups of residents.
  • Assists and provides training in personal hygiene and grooming, self-care, travel, general household management, cooking and nutrition, laundry, decision making, and appropriate social skills to the individuals we support.
  • Consults with the treatment team regarding proposed treatment plans, progress in treatment, and recommendations for changes in treatment for individual residents and groups of residents.
  • Documents services delivered and provides verbal and written reports as specified by program policy.
  • May deliver services in home or community settings and may escort residents on trips into the community.
  • Attends staff meetings as specified by a supervisor and/or program manager.
  • Meets the resident's goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining occupational therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
  • Helps resident develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities by implementing programs involving manual arts and crafts, practice in functional, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, activities of daily living, and sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities.
  • Prepares resident for return to employment by consulting with employers; determining potential employee difficulties; retraining employees; helping employers understand necessary physical and job result accommodations.
  • Evaluates results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating resident's progress; recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Evaluates and adapts the environment at home, work, school, and other environments to promote an individual's optimal functioning.
  • Provides educational programs, experiential learning, and treatment groups or classes to address assertiveness, self-awareness, interpersonal and social skills, stress management, and role development.
  • Facilitates the development of skills needed for independent living such as using community resources, managing one's home, managing time, managing medication, and being safe at home and in the community.
