Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Ocean Engineer for the Ocean Engineering and Technology Support Program, supporting the Navy Division.
JOB DETAILS
LOCATION: Ventura, CA
JOB STATUS: Full Time provided that the Customer awards sufficient work to support full-time employment
TRAVEL: Up to 5%
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:
- Highest Level of Education: Masters degree in Ocean, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering
- Certification(s) required: Professional Engineering registration
- A minimum of ten years practical experience in design and development of advanced equipment and systems for use in the deep ocean, including subsea cable structures, ocean engineering instrumentation, subsea navigation systems, hydrodynamics, and structural analysis.
- A minimum of four years experience in design and analysis of at-sea load handling systems, deck winches, deck machinery, and load/motion compensation equipment
- A minimum of four years experience in the adaptation of ocean engineering methods and systems for use in extreme environmental conditions.
- A minimum of four years experience in the systematic application of corrosion control methods to undersea systems.
- A minimum of four years experience in the integration of ocean cable systems, including both bottom-laid and suspended or towed systems
- A minimum of ten years experience in R&D for analysis and design of underwater work systems for remotely operated vehicles
- A Top Secret clearance based on an TS investigation and deemed eligible for SCI access. US Citizenship is Required
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist NAVFAC EXWC in conducting a detailed system integration study for installing a handling system on NAVFAC EXWC offshore support vessels, to include deck layouts, structural modification assessment, motion compensation systems, over boarding assembly concept design, ship stability analyses, and inputs to level of effort and schedule to complete the integration.
- Assist NAVFAC EXWC to fabricate, assemble and accept specially designed titanium cable grip hardware subsystems, cable survivability and protection hardware, and participate in concept development and design assessment for cable protection and trawl resistant design solutions and cable installation.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four years experience above the minimum level required may be substituted for the Masters degree requirement. A Bachelors degree in Ocean, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering is required if experience is substituted for a Masters degree.
- A Doctoral degree (PhD) may be substituted for four years experience.
SALARY RANGE: *Starting salary: $140,000 + annually
