Job Description ECU Health About ECU Health North Hospital ECU Health North Hospital is a Joint Commission-accredited, 204-bed acute bed facility serving Halifax, Northampton and Warren counties in the north-central region of North Carolina. Its service area also reaches into southern Virginia. With more than 600 team members, the hospital offers a broad range of medical and surgical services. It features a 24-hour emergency department and offers advanced diagnostics as well as specialty and primary care. Position Summary This Office Assistant coordinates front office functions and completes point of service activities Responsibilities Coordinate operations of front office a. Greets patients in friendly and courteous manner. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and contributes to the mission of clinical services. b. Answers the phone and gathers information from patients. c. Takes messages for physicians and other clinical staff. d. Screens calls and tries to accommodate patients' needs for appointment. e. Schedules return appointment, referrals, monitors for no-shows, late arrivals, and works directly with clinic staff to make adjustments as needed to schedules. f. Assists in inventory review and orders supplies to meet par levels. Complete Point of Service activities a. Maintain patient scheduling system for all assigned providers b. Handles patient registration 1.Checks patients in 2.Verifies patient information 3.Checks patients out c. Billing and booking functions including cash payments, posting and balancing daily sheet of transactions. d. Completes assigned charge entry and follow-up functions to include work queue edits. e. Follows all Central Business Office policies and procedures. f. Copy records for insurance companies; make sure patient authorization is correct and valid. Maintain and update medical records. a. Prepares new records, refiles and maintains patient medical records. b. Pulls patient charts for the day per the schedule. c. Posts incoming correspondence and reports on patient charts for physician review. d. Sorts charts from the day before and after physicians have signed off on them. e. Sorts and posts paperwork needing follow-up from clinical team as assigned. f. Places dictation with patient charts and informs physicians of missed dictation and tries to help locate. Minimum Requirements High School, plus 1 to 2 years of formal training or education.
