Job Description:

Summary

The Armed Police Officer is responsible for patrolling the hospital and grounds to ensure a safe, secure environment for Associates, patients and their family members, and other visitors to the hospital. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in BMH Mission, Vision and Values.

Responsibilities

* Patrols hospital, parking and/or assigned area to ensure safety and security for patients, staff and visitors of the campus.

* Conduct regular patrols of campus, i.e., van, shuttle, footpatrol.

* Monitor parking lots, physician offices and the building perimeter

* Monitor the hospital CCTV system

* Monitor entrances of the hospital

* Provides a visible uniformed presence on campus

* Use proper communication skills for radio and telephone.

* Use verbal de-escalation methods to control disagreements

* Maintains appearance and equipment in accordance with Memphis Police Department Policy and Procedure

* Maintains order and enforces Tennessee Law/City of Memphis ordinances

* Comply with HIPPA, EMTALA and all other laws involving patient rights

* Assist with parking enforcement in restricted areas, such as fire zones

* Assist Baptist Hospital security as necessary to maintain safety and security on campus.

* Assist with emergency response activities during disasters

* Assist in the event of a fire (RACE/PASS)

* Manage/maintain security equipment and report issues to leadership

* Confront unauthorized persons for questioning

* Notify leadership of physical security or safety hazards identified

* Complete all required training for healthcare security

* Coordinates with hospital staff regarding non-police related situations

Requirements, Preferences and Experience

Education

?Preferred: College level course in Criminal Justice.

?Minimum: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.

Experience

?Preferred: One (1) year of law enforcement

?Minimum: Primary Employment as Post Certified Officer w/the Memphis Police Department

Licensure, Registration, Certification

?Preferred: POST Cerfication

?Minimum: Valid driver's license and the ability to be insured required.

Special Skills

?Minimum: Knowledge of security and criminal investigation methods. Ability to carry out assigned duties. Ability to exhibit appropriate behavior when greeting and assisting members of the public. Ability to understand and prepare written materials at a moderate level, such as Incident Reports. Ability to communicate effectively and verbally deescalate patients, staff and visitors when necessary. Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment. Ability to organize multiple tasks and maintain control of work flow. Ability to maintain working relationship with co-workers.

Training

?Preferred: Completion of CIT training and taser certification.

?Minimum: OC or Pepper Spray, Baton Certification. Possess or have the ability to obtain CPR/BLS/De-escalation certification within 14 days of hire.
