Summary The Official Court Reporter is responsible for the verbatim reporting of the judicial and administrative proceedings to which they are assigned, regardless of the nature, difficulty, or location of the proceedings. When requested, the incumbent is further responsible for the accurate preparation and timely submission of the official transcript of the proceedings which constitutes an official record. This position is located in the Court Reporting Division of the D.C. Superior Court. Responsibilities BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Provides verbatim reporting of judicial and administrative proceedings. Provides accurate and timely transcripts of court proceedings that constitute official court records Safeguards verbatim files, Rich Text Format (RTF) files, Secure Digital (SD) cards, voice writer and backup audio files of the proceedings, properly identifying records by date, judge, case title and location Uploads the Daily Worksheet and RTF file to the Web Transcript Tracking System (WTTS) and other routine paperwork to the Division Director as requested Works with all of the judges of the District of Columbia Courts and supporting staff in a competent and professional manner Has available adequate and serviceable equipment for the efficient performance of duties without interruption to the Court's schedules, to include remote court reporting Complies with all rules as contained in the Rules of Superior Court and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals relating to and dealing with court reporting and the timely production of transcripts and additional directives as may be required by the Division Conducts verbatim reporting at a minimum of 225 words per minute and must possess an excellent command of the English language Requirements Conditions of Employment A background and/or security investigation is required. Probationary period of one (1) year. To qualify for this position, you must submit the following: Resume Completed Vacancy Questionnaire Documentation / Proof of Education (e.g. copy of HS diploma, GED certificate, college transcript or degree) List of three (3) professional references All required documentation must be received by the closing date of the announcement. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GRADE 11: High school diploma or GED plus seven (7) years of court reporting experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GRADE 12: High school diploma or GED plus eight (8) years of court reporting experience. A Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification, Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) certification and/or Certified Realtime Captioner (CRC) certification is preferred. The ability to conduct verbatim reporting at a minimum rate of 225 words per minute is required. Candidates must furnish their own equipment and software to provide real-time reporting to the judiciary and produce their own transcripts. Candidates must also be able to lift materials of up to forty (40) pounds. Documentation of education must be submitted with your application or your application will not be considered.
