Omaha Sports Commission / PACE

The VISTA member will work with Omaha Sports Commission (OSC), and Police Athletics for Community Engagement (PACE) programs to develop a program manual, volunteer manual, conduct outreach to build stronger partnerships and collaborations, capture data for research and grant writing to increase and expand programing including youth and family participation. PACE works with youth grades K-12 to build confidence to make healthier lifestyle choices through a variety of program offerings. OSC fosters a positive socio-economic impact on and increases the image of Omaha as a nationally recognized healthy lifestyles community by attracting, hosting, and supporting activities and programs related to health and wellness programs throughout the community. This successful VISTA member will have excellent communication skills, an ability to toggle multiple tasks at once, be comfortable with community outreach and coordination of volunteers and excel in a small team environment. As a result of the VISTA member's service year, it is anticipated that the member through dedication to service and a passion to increase opportunities for the PACE program will in turn, build capacity for the program and for OSC by enhancing and expanding upon partnerships, curriculum review and development, program data collection, and needs assessment. This program participation will increase healthy lifestyle choices, through educational programming, encourage team building skills, increase stronger community benefits by bridging the community and local police members together, who participate and support the program athletic activities. The PACE program helps to bring participants out of poverty by building relationships within the schools, neighborhoods, youth participants and their families. Member Duties : The VISTA member will coordinate and develop a dialogue with program volunteers to enhance recruitment of program participants and other individuals who make our programs succeed. The member will also conduct outreach with local educational institutions to develop and enhance partnerships for programs, which support kids K-12. This will include curriculum development associated with building life skills for underserved youth participants within the PACE program. Program tasks may include plans for pre-program evaluations, preparation, and implementation. Research and grant writing to assist in enhancing and expanding program deliverables including gathering data and supporting material which will assist in increasing the PACE programs capacity to serve the targeted K-12 demographic.
