We are currently seeking an On-call Environmental Scientist (Entry-level) to support our growing renewable energy practice in New York State and the Northeastern United States. This is an on-call, hourly position based out of our Rochester, New York Office. The candidate will be involved primarily in renewable energy site development efforts, chiefly in a supporting role for biological field studies. The focus of this position is on helping our clients navigate natural resource concerns related to their projects from wildlife, wetlands, and more.The ideal candidate will have experience conducting natural resource assessments and gathering high quality field data (T&E species, avian surveys, etc.). The candidate will have at minimum, experience gathering field data using current methods such as Esri Field Maps or other similar tablet/phone-based systems; an outstanding candidate will have additional experience with basic technical writing and drafting portions of natural resources-focused reports in a consulting, agency, or academic setting. You'll mainly be working in a team setting with a group of motivated and passionate biologists to complete biological field surveys across New York State and potentially elsewhere within the continental United States.Your Role:•Conduct biological surveys as needed, including avian surveys, wetland delineations, reptile and amphibian surveys, bat surveys, and more.•Support permit applications for renewable energy projects at the State and local level.•Support a robust nationwide network of biologists doing cutting edge work with wildlife and other natural resources.•Conduct independent data QA/QC as required.Qualifications:•Completion of college level ornithology, wildlife science, and ecology/general biology classes •1-3 years of professional experience including field data collection in some capacity.•Experience using field technologies such as handheld GPS units, tablets, etc.•A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.•Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.Our ideal candidate will also possess some or all of these skills:•Experience conducting avian surveys for various species in the Eastern United States.•Experience conducting rare plant and/or wetland surveys based on established protocols.•Experience conducting other types of wildlife surveys, such as reptile and/or amphibian surveys or bat surveys for special-status or common species.•Experience conducting wetland delineations based on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers methods in the northeastern United States is a plus but not required.Compensation:Salary commensurate with experience.Salary Range: $20.00 - $32.00 hourlyPay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.Benefits: •Comprehensive and market-competitive benefits. •Merit-based financial rewards. •Flexibility and company-wide commitment to work/life balance.•Collaborative team atmosphere that values the contributions of all employees.•Learning and development opportunities for ongoing professional growth.At Tetra Tech, health and safety play a vital role in our success.
