Monmouth University seeks applications for an On-Call Laboratory Animal and Vivarium Technician in the Biology department.
The candidate will be expected to: manage operational activities of the vivarium in support of investigators research; ensure daily care of animals in an ethical, safe, and sanitary manner using appropriate equipment and in compliance with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) regulations and policies;
Provide clean housing, feed, water and appropriate enrichment for animals housed in the facility; observe animals daily and reporting abnormal findings to appropriate individual(s); monitor environmental conditions (temperature, light cycle, noise levels, air flow, etc.) and document daily.

Experience with care of rodents and aquatics systems (fish).
Knowledge of standard operating procedures for animal facilities and the basic requirements for maintaining laboratory animals and performing scientific procedures involving animal testing and data collection.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs and have the ability to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to work in a laboratory environment with personal protective equipment. Must be able to work individually or in a team environment with minimal supervision.
Ability to work on weekends and holidays; this would include all semester breaks and holidays that classes are not in session. Ability to work a flexible schedule for time-critical laboratory needs. Pass a a pre-employment physical.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate's degree or higher in Zoology, Biology, Animal Husbandry or equivalent. American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification.
