On-Call LPNHiring Range: $32.53 - $40.67 Per HourKitsap Mental Health Services is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for our Inpatient Services Team. The LPN will identify psychiatric and physical health needs, facilitate referrals to community physicians or the KMHS naturopath, provide management and oversight of medication observation processes, and offer a range of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services.Primary Responsibilities:* Examine clients upon entering Inpatient using established protocol for elements of limited assessment. Participate in determining whether the client is medically stable for KMHS staff to provide care within the scope of practice of Inpatient Services.* Communicate with outpatient psychiatric medical providers, process their orders, and implement them while maintaining the highest level of nursing care.* Document client care, medication information, and treatment administration. Evaluate, monitor, and document client responses to medication, treatments, progress to mental health goals, and plan of care.* Collaborate with the team to establish and obtain pertinent goals.* Perform medication observation and subsequent documentation in a safe manner by standardized nursing guidelines.* Provide oversight to the medication observation processes.* Organize medications and oversee storage for medication observation as directed by the designated psychiatric medical providers.* Dispose of medications according to KMHS protocol.* Count and order medication for clients, maintain house stock, and count and document controlled medications per shift while working.* Initiate emergency procedures using technical skills, professional judgment, and appropriate nursing/medical intervention(s).* Obtain provider orders, verify and initiate.* Train, educate, orient, and mentor staff performing medication observation duties on the unit.* Coordinate with the supervisor, care team assistant, and behavioral health technicians for unit safety and other client needs.* Participate in discharge planning, review of treatment goals, and assist clients with medication educational needs, ordering of discharge medications, etc.* Participate in program activities as a team member, including leading wellness groups and interacting with clients on the milieu.* Complete required nursing notes, eMAR entries, and other necessary documentation for quality care in an accurate, timely manner, while meeting agency, statutory, regulatory, statistical, and funding requirements.* Respond to current fire drill/evacuation plan with awareness of duties and procedures.* Adhere to unit operating and nursing policies and procedures.* Disclose limited client information as necessary to the position as trained by the Records Dept. Supervisor. Disclosures must adhere to HIPAA privacy and security standards and be logged in detail according to agency policy and procedures.* Complete all required KMHS training and annual refreshers. Keep WA nursing licensure up to date and provide documentation to HR as requested.Minimum Qualifications:EDUCATION: Completed a state-approved nursing program; pass the NCLEX-PN exam.EXPERIENCE: Entry level (no prior related work experience)Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle report.LICENSURE: Active and unencumbered LPN license in Washington State.Preferred Qualifications:EDUCATION: Associates' degree in Nursing.EXPERIENCE: Two years of LPN experience preferred but not mandatory; Two years of experience in mental health.Performance Requirements:KNOWLEDGE:* Maintain a working knowledge and skill in verbal de-escalation skills as outlined in Proact training and other agency-mandated training* May serve as mental health professional if qualified.SKILLS:* Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.* Communication ‑ Communicates clearly and concisely.* Time management to address the needs of clients during the scheduled shiftAbilities:* Ability to Delegate non-nursing tasks to support staff. Coordinate with the shift supervisor for unit safety and other client needs.Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.Work Environment: Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods.Mental/Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, ascend and descend stairs, talk or listen and lift up to 50 pounds.
