- Conduct immigration legal screening and communicate effectively with potential clients. Provide eligibility and risk assessment for individuals seeking immigration representation before the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Refer to external services when needed.
- Provide legal advice and directly represent clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and other immigration agencies on a wide range of matters, including naturalization, refugee/asylee petitions, adjustment of status, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and other forms of immigration relief.
- Provide technical assistance to DOJ Accredited Representatives at all levels of adjudication, including consulting on legal strategy, reviewing and providing feedback on legal documents including DHS applications, and performing legal research.
- Prepare successful immigration filings before DHS agencies.
- Ability to communicate clearly, persuasively and succinctly - both verbally and in writing in English.
- Manage client documentation, maintain up-to-date client/matter data in an electronic medical record system by ensuring all services are documents and all correspondence and other documents are uploaded/filed.
- Assist with legal education efforts, including planning, developing and providing workshops, producing legal education materials, and conducting outreach to social service and community-based organizations
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and to effectively interact with clients, Jericho Road staff and external agencies.
- Stay up to date on rapidly changing immigration laws and policies.
Qualifications:
- Be admitted and remain in good standing of the bar of the highest court of any state in the country or U.S. territory with specialized areas in immigration and naturalization.
- Have a minimum of 1 year of experience in immigration law and representing clients before the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
- Written and spoken professional level of fluency in English is required. Professional fluency in an additional language is a plus.
- Excellent organization, computer, legal research and oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management and record keeping skills, including the ability to work independently, assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.
- Creative, collaborative, self-directed and detail oriented.
- Superior interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and to effectively interact with clients, management and program staff.
- Ability to make mature, experienced legal and business judgments.
- Be able and willing to travel, when necessary, as part of client representation, training attendance, or as required by supervisor.
Hourly Rate: $30.00 an hour.
