The Breast Center Oncology Nurse Navigator establishes, promotes, and coordinates a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment with physicians (medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, and hematology/oncology fellows), nurses, support staff, and other providers that is centered on the needs of patients, families, and significant others.The primary focus of the Breast Center Navigator is to support Oncology/Hematology patients in the Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson Hospital including the nursing evaluation, development and ongoing implementation of outpatient care plan, education and counseling of patients and families, and coordination of home nursing services, social services, and hospice services. The Navigator is available to assist patients, care givers, or family members and practices in accordance with ANA and ONS standards of care. Using this practice, the nurse triages patient concerns via telephone and receives phone calls related to urgent care, inpatient admissions, prescription refill questions, test result questions, and creates the proper disposition of each. This position is part of the Massachusetts Nurses Association Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. This position reports to the Nurse Manager and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Qualifications- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and/or relevant experience required
- A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years' experience in ambulatory oncology required
- Oncology navigator, practice nurse, and/or triage experience strongly preferred
- Licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse (RN) required
- Certification in Oncology Nursing required within 18 months of hire date.If certification is not received within 18 months, position will be forfeited
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required
- Demonstrated leadership skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to practice independently and as a team member required
- Knowledge of basic computer skills required
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality required
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, peers, physicians, and family members required
