Overview
Facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.
Responsibilities
* Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
* Functions as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures by:
* Assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure;
* Preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure;
* Performing accounting procedures in concert with the RN circulator;
* Assisting with placement of sterile drapes;
* Providing instruments, medications, and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure;
* Maintaining an organized sterile field;
* Ensuring sterility of the field and taking corrective actions as needed; and
* Preparing sterile dressings.
* Cleans and prepares surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
* Assists with post procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
* Participates in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to scrub person activities.
* Monitors and helps maintain adequate stock, supplies, and equipment for operating rooms and procedures.
* Manages the patient's specimens according to organizational policy and procedures.
* Performs interventions necessary to ensure that the patient's procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level.
* Maintains privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
* Functions in the Endoscopic (GI) area by:
* Accurately washing, disinfecting, and assembling scopes for procedures;
* Assessing functionality of scope and reporting repair or replacement needs to supervisor;
* Maintaining records of endoscope usage and repair logs;
* Accurately identifying patient;
* Accurately scheduling the patient and the procedure into the computer system;
* Assisting with accurate handling of specimens;
* Assisting physician with endoscopic and diagnostic procedures.
* Performs work according to rules, regulations, policies and guidelines; complies with standards in the Code of Conduct.
* Flexible to schedule; performs all other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
Education: High School or equivalent preferred
Experience: Previous medical experience, completion of ORT course or previous experience as an ORT preferred
Additional Skills/Abilities: Capable of handling critical and emergency situations, pressure due to multiple demands and flexibility to handle long and irregular hours. Demonstrates basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology of tissue handling.
