Summary of Position: Under general supervision, assists in financial management, customer relations, meeting operational obligations, as well as personnel responsibilities including but not limited to conflict resolution, progressive discipline, performance evaluations and staffing. Performs all lab support functions. Assumes responsibility for day to day laboratory support activities. Responsible for ensuring that safety/emergency preparedness requirements.
Primary Job Responsibilities: - Leadership: Provides oversight for all lab support and customer relations services including outpatient collection activities, waiting room management, registration, accessioning, scheduling, specimen requirement, and resource allocation. Manages laboratory support post analytical activities related to report delivery via phone, fax, hard copy or electronic interface. Works with interdepartmental teams to improve processes and systems. Assists with updating policies/procedures and development of new policies/procedures for newly introduced services or processes.
- Administrative Management: Manages laboratory support post analytical activities related to report delivery via phone, fax, hard copy or electronic interface, scanning of non-interfaced results, and electronic delivery of critical results. Oversees pre-analytical support including acquiring temporary New York State CLIA for kit draws, scheduling of outpatients, acquiring homedraw requisitions, and requisition clarification. Responsible for requisition, and clinical laboratory document storage. Provides assistance to management staff in coordinating meetings, as well as writing and distributing communications.
- Financial Management: Acts as a liaison with all Saratoga Hospital facilities, ensuring sufficient staff coverage both immediately and in the future by participating in the budgeting process. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility through cost and inventory control. Submits variance reports for budgetary discrepancies.
- Human Resource Management: Recruits employees who will provide excellent service and develops teams that work well together to achieve common goals. Works with the Lab Support Education Coordinator to ensure optimal training for employees. Responsible for performing staff evaluations to develop employee's conflict resolution, and participating in disciplinary action to correct undesirable behaviors. Proficient in delegation of work to accomplish departmental objectives.
- Quality Assurance: Monitors quality/quantity of patient interaction, accessioning accuracy, specimen collection activity and shares data with Laboratory Support Education Coordinator and assists in determining focus of education efforts. Motivates support staff to create improvements directed at positively affecting patient experiences.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate's Degree or 5 years of experience required; Bachelor's degree strongly preferred. Minimum of three years of laboratory experience, preferably in a hospital environment. Experience in registration and scheduling preferred. Valid New York State driver's license required. Must be at least 23 years of age and approved to drive Saratoga Hospital vehicles for shifts requiring travel for offsite specimen collection.
Certifications / Licensure: Certified by ASCP, NHA or AMT within 1 year. Mandatory 9 CEU supervisor approved credits per year. Certification eligible in Healthcare/Patient Safety, Laboratory Safety, BioSafety or Safety Management with full certification within one year of hire. Salary Range: $19.38 - 31.82 Pay Grade: 22 Compensation may vary based upon, but not limited to: overall experience and qualifications, shift, and location.
