Bloomberg Associates (BA) is Bloomberg Philanthropies' pro bono consulting service founded by Michael Bloomberg, the 108th Mayor of New York City and Founder of Bloomberg LP, as a philanthropic venture. We provide services to cities that help governments improve the quality of life of their citizens. BA works across nine (9) different focus areas: Cultural Assets Management, Marketing & Communications, Media and Digital Strategies, Municipal Integrity, Social Services, Sustainability, Transportation, Economic Development and Urban Planning, with teams that have deep subject matter expertise and extensive experience in municipal government.

Position Description

Bloomberg Associates seeks a fellow for six months to assist the Operations Practice. This role will primarily focus on two key priorities: maintaining the organization's internal project tracking tool and supporting the management of client city project portfolios. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

This role is fully remote and part-time, working an average of 20 hours per week and will be initially a 6-month contract. The Fellow would work remotely but should be located in the New York metro area to attend periodic meetings at the office. They will need to be a self-starter, highly organized, an excellent communicator and comfortable working with limited supervision.

Support the Bloomberg Associates (BA) Operations Team in the management of internal processes, including an internal project tracking and reporting tool, as well as the management of city-specific portfolios.

The Operations Fellow will support in the improvement and standardization of internal processes, streamlining of internal reporting, and project tracking. This work will involve the optimization of project management tools and documents, linking such tools with client-facing results, updating these platforms with historical data, and conducting supportive research on an as-needed basis. The role will also require support to handle and produce reports for city-specific portfolios of projects across the organization, involving occasional client engagement and coordination between multiple partners involved in client portfolio management.

Key Responsibilities

Client City Project Portfolio Support

  • Generate professional and succinct internal- and client-facing reports
  • Help monitor projects across 5-8 cities and 13 discipline teams within BA to ensure alignment across teams and within the project tracking tool
  • Support meetings related to client city projects by taking detailed notes, tracking action items, and ensuring follow-up

Project Tracking Tool Support

  • Ensure data quality in internal project tracking tool
  • Analyze, clean, and upload quantitative and qualitative data
  • Develop new workflows within the tool to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Liaise with all BA project teams as needed to capture project updates, insights, and data for reporting purposes
  • Connect with designated individuals across all BA project teams to ensure that quantitative and qualitative data is submitted into the internal project tracking tool on a consistent basis

Pending capacity, the Fellow may also be asked to support various other Operations work, including desk research, data analysis, and other client support needs.

Desired Qualifications

We seek dedicated, curious individuals with outstanding research, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Other qualifications include:

  • Bachelors or Master's degree in related field and a minimum of two years' meaningful professional experience in business, government and/or nonprofit organizations.
  • Background in project management, consulting, operations or similar field
  • Professional and client-facing demeanor
  • Strong understanding of data analysis and Excel; Experience with Airtable is helpful but not required
  • Strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and standard processes
  • Ability to translate raw data into professional and succinct memos and reports
  • Ability to navigate matrixed and complex organizations
  • Proven track record to tackle problems creatively and excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills

Pay Range Per Hour: $25.50-$30

This role will be part-time, ranging from 15 - 20 hours per week.

The referenced pay range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
