Job Summary : The broad responsibility of ownership for the Department Value Stream. Designs, implements and changes as needed, the performance measurements and reports necessary to effectively evaluate operational performance for worker safety, food safety, on time shipments, schedule attainment, costs and quality and establish trends in product quality, customer service. Interpret the results of performance evaluation to identify operational and intra- and interdepartmental improvement opportunities. Responsible for developing direct reports. Lead and/or delegate work within operations to and work cross-functionally to implement change. Essential Responsibilities : Daily Operations/Troubleshooting:
- Responsible for prioritizing safety and maintaining a strong safety culture throughout the department.
- Participates in Finishing daily operating huddle meeting with Finishing Operations, Quality Control, R&D, Formulations, Customer Experience and Procurement, identify exceptions and potential problem jobs which could lead to late orders.
- Brings issues forward that may impact performance of the team including large orders, raw material concerns, changes in demand, rush requests, etc.
- Establish and maintain a team environment by coaching and working with operators and supervisors across all shifts of operations for employee safety, food safety, customer on-time delivery, production schedule and improvement opportunities.
- Oversight for decision making for priorities on manufacturing equipment and employee scheduling, decisions on problematic manufacturing batches, adherence to food safety and employee safety. Meet manufacturing schedule to allow Kalsec to ship products by scheduled ship date.
- Operational leadership supporting the successful implementation of a LEAN operational system and culture resulting in operational efficiency improvements and cost out.
- Operational leadership engagement for meeting with LEAN leaders, CI leaders regularly for PDCA project/process reviews empowering the teams which will support a culture of continuous improvement and development of a learning organization.
Food safety and employee safety:
- Works with the EHS leadership and KEST (Kalamazoo Employee Safety Team), tracks metrics and progress over time and ensures follow through.
- Works with Quality Control and Quality Assurance and finishing operations to maintain SQF Certification. Tracks and trends food safety auditing of Finishing Operations and puts appropriate plans in place to address nonconformances in Food Safety Programs.
Management Expectations:
- Manages daily and weekly plans to meet on time delivery expectations and attainment to manufacturing schedule. Investigates causes in Finishing which impact on time delivery and determines short-term and long-term countermeasures and course of action.
- Development and execution of personal action plans/personal development plans aligned with corporate goals/strategy, tracks progress over course of fiscal year.
- Manage and lead analysis of work elements to establish work center capacity and utilization for all operations.
- Lead the development of standardized work and creation/implementation of SOP s and training for all operations.
- Track and trend customer complaints, non-conformances and DOT compliance issues related to Finishing. Implement appropriate short-term corrective actions and where patterns exist, implement long-term preventative actions.
Education/Experience : Required:
- 4 year Bachelor's degree in technical or business focused area.
- 5-10 years of experience in systems/process improvement, quality, supply chain and or/manufacturing in the food, beverage, or allied industries.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience with history of developing multiple employees, in a high volume, high variety/mix environment and with batch manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated ability in leading cross-functional teams to resolve problems in a collaborative manner.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategy plans and work with staff on implementation.
- Excellent direct, written, and verbal communication skills
Desired:
- ASQ Quality Engineer/Quality Manager/Six Sigma Certification, prior experience with the Toyota Production System and/or LEAN.
- Experience in the application of statistics to problems in manufacturing settings using commonly available software packages.
- Ability to travel as required.
