Our mission is to rescue surplus food from grocery stores, restaurants, wholesalers and farmers and redistribute it to communities in need at no cost to the consumer. We've rescued over 80 million pounds of food to date - and we're just getting started.Sharing Excess operates a wholesale food rescue program out of the Hunts Point Produce Market, one of the largest produce terminals in the world, providing around 60% of the produce to New York City and the surrounding area. We are seeking an Operations Manager to oversee and also be hands-on with the daily rescue and redistribution of donated food at Hunts Point. In this position, you will be a part of and manage a team of 10+ employees who are gleaning through food donations, moving pallets of food, loading trucks, and logistically coordinating the incoming and outgoing deliveries of food donations. This job is reactionary  meaning the donation streams may change daily, and this position requires you to use critical thinking skills to ensure all donations find a suitable home, every day. You will report to the Sharing Excess Program Director and should be adept at team communication and management, strategic business planning, and relationship building. Day-to-day tasks include working directly with produce vendors to secure donations, overseeing our team of warehouse associates, weighing and tracking food donations within our app, sorting through produce when necessary, and engaging and training volunteers. Please note this job requires you to be on your feet and will involve early mornings on-site at the market.Key Responsibilities:Report directly to the Program Director to ensure operations are on-time and running smoothly.Maintain close-knit, positive relationships with produce vendors daily to secure donations.Lead and supervise our team of warehouse associates and overall warehouse operations to maintain a positive and engaging work environment and clean, safe warehouse space.Ensure accurate and timely inventory of all inbound and and stored surplus donations, within the refrigerated warehouse spaces.Ensure a clean and safe working environment including training and coaching of all staff around safety and safe handling of produce.Oversight of trucking and equipment to ensure the needs of daily operations are met.Coordinate quality control checks on a daily basis to ensure efficient sorting of all inbound product and repacking of quality outgoing donations.Weigh and track food donations in the SE app and inventory/tracking spreadsheets.Track the allocation of donations from vendor to specific recipients utilizing vendor donations data and established allocation processes.Train and manage a volunteer team on a daily and weekly basis.Assist the warehouse associates with sorting produce as needed.Supports the director in additional activities related to strategic planning, and developing and launching new partners or initiatives.Use collected data to create and send invoices to vendors on a consistent basis. (monthly).Qualifications:3+ years experience managing a team in a warehouse environment. (in-person management strongly preferred; position is hands-on).Strong leadership skills.Comfortable communicating with a variety of stakeholders.Comfortable handling forklifts, pallet jacks, etc. (Forklift certification is a plus).Must have a personal vehicle or reliable transportation. (Our warehouse is in an industrial area & not accessible via public transportation).Comfortable with data tracking and analysis.Must be able to lift 50 lb at one time.Physical Requirements:Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the warehouse for extended periods (at least 8 hours per shift).Capability to lift, carry, and maneuver pallets or containers weighing up to 60 lbs.Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.Tolerance for working in varied temperatures, including refrigerated and ambient warehouse conditions.Capability to perform repetitive tasks, including sorting, weighing, and organizing food items.Detailed Requirements:Adherence to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.Familiarity with food safety regulations and compliance standards relevant to food handling and warehouse operations including OSHA regulations.Effective time management skills to prioritize tasks and ensure timely completion of responsibilities.Strong problem-solving abilities to adapt to changing circumstances and address operational challenges.Proficiency in using digital tools and apps for tracking and managing food donations and inventory.Proficiency in using general software (MS Word/Excel or Google Docs/Sheets) for administration.Compensation: Starting salary is $70,000 with PTO, healthcare benefits, and 401k options.Sharing Excess is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applicants of all backgrounds to apply.
