Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Operations
- Ensure staff adheres to Standard Operating Procedures
- Provide guidance to staff regarding the handling of vessels
- Ensure staff adhere to Company Safety requirements
- Delegate Operations tasks in order to maintain office workload
- Oversee proper use of SharePoint and Megatron
- Analyze monthly P&L and make decisions on allocations and expenditures
- Oversee collection of port expenses and pursue outstanding balances
- Approve invoices and final disbursement accounts
- Ensure staff comply with government regulations
- Conduct weekly Operations Department meeting
- Board vessels when necessary
- Managing People
- Train staff in all aspects of vessel agency
- Develop staff using the company's Agent Progression list
- Carry out annual performance reviews
- Discipline and terminate staff with the assistance of Human Resources
- Interview and hire new staff with the assistance of Human Resources
- Relationships
- Develop local relationships with terminals, surveyors and other important vendors
- Maintain relationships with current customers which may include travel
- Conduct port tours and coordinate customer visits
- Commercial
- Complete monthly vessel tracking, ship reports and operations reports
- Complete commercial cycles on potential business
- Seek out opportunities for business development
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Four year college degree desirable
- Possess a general business management acumen including excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong commercial understanding of shipping
- Three years of experience in the shipping industry with demonstrated progression to operations management level
- Ability to analyze and think strategically
- Successful completion of ASBA Chartering Course or equivalent
