Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for the management, P&L, and day-to-day operations of the Sims Metal Sparks, NV facility for ferrous and non-ferrous metals processing. The position has approximately 7 to 8 direct report employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Partners with the Health and Safety department to ensure employees and yard operations are aligned with SMM's commitment to safety initiatives.
  • Manages plant operations for the site. Staff includes yard laborers, equipment operators, scale operators, and administrative staff.
  • Develops strategies, business plans, budgets, and programs to reduce costs and increase productivity.
  • Implements corporate-sponsored initiatives, including standardized production and budget forecasting/reporting.
  • Knowledge of shears, balers, mobile equipment, and requisite tools, equipment, and supplies required for operations.
  • Partner with regional HR to implement performance management, change management, and employee engagement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Only candidates with a prior recycling background will be considered for this role.
  • Must have 5+ years of scrap metal industry experience with a working understanding of different types of metals.
  • Must have 5+ years of management experience.
  • BA Technical Degree: Engineering, Sustainable Engineering, Management, etc. preferred.
  • Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills to find suitable solutions to productivity issues.
