Take the first step in the right direction-are you READY?Position Summary:Oversees the day-to-day vessel, gate, and container yard operations. Take appropriate action as necessary to optimizeoperations through maximizing production, efficiency, and safety with properutilization of personnel and equipment.Key Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Supervise ILA Local 1351 and ILA Local 28 staff including managing performance, discipline, and recognition. Supervise and coordinate 24/7 road and terminal operations
  • Responsible for setting up Vessel Operations plans, gather load back pads and find discharge pad locations.
  • Direct the movement of port equipment and labor around the terminal to ensure road, vessel, and yard trucks are serviced in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate terminal allocations when designated in Yard Planning Center.Perform rail operations duties/functions when designated.
  • Establish and maintain adequate relationships and provide direct liaison with stevedoring and shipping industry.
  • Determine and finalize labor and equipment orders for the evening, following day, weekend and holiday.
  • Create and maintain stevedore utilization of Port Houston cranes and equipment; prepare and finalize crane bills.
  • Review and approve daily/weekly ILA labor payroll.
  • Respond to all accidents; create incident reports and investigate cause of incident.
  • Coordinate with Port Police and Fire departments of accidents, incidents, or any violations or potential hazards to the environment.
  • Maintain all truck driver safety violations. Meet with trucking companies and drivers as needed to discuss excess violations leading to a ban from the terminal.
  • Inform the Terminal Manager and Vessel Operations Manager of vessel, yard and gate activities.
  • Create and provide productivity container yard recap reports and correspondence with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Update VMS for required access to the terminals.
  • Perform required safety audits and attend safety-training classes.
  • Complete all assigned training.
  • Act in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)
  • Perform related duties as required
  • Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Maritime Administration, Business Administration, or related major in a public or accredited private academic institution required; or in lieu of degree, 5+ years of related experience in a similar role.
  • 1+ years of related experience preferred
