  • Must be able to work any day of the week, weekends, and holidays.
  • Shifts vary, could be 10-hour days starting as early as 6:45 am.
SUMMARYThe Operations Supervisor, under the guidance of the Mountain Guides' Director, will manage the on-snow and Snowbird mountain operations side of Mountain Guide operations. Snowbird Mountain Guides is an AIARE course provider as well as a guiding outfitter for cat skiing, snowshoe tours, backcountry skiing, split boarding & additional backcountry educational programming. Our backcountry activities are managed in conjunction with the Snowbird Snow Safety and Mountain Operations teams. With a small management team, you may be asked to assist with a diverse set of tasks to promote the team's success.WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Assist with vetting guides and instructors as needed and providing training opportunities indoors and in the field for new hires as well as returning staff.
  • Schedule guides for tours, matching guide expertise with guest goals or requests.
  • Manage staff hours for payroll, assist with managing payroll submissions each pay period.
  • Manage requests for guided inbounds pre-public skiing requests from marketing and other departments by staffing them or by guiding them personally.
  • Make sure guides and instructors understand the expectations of their decision-making and have what they need so their day runs smoothly.
  • Coordinate breakfasts for catskiing and lunches for backcountry tours at in-house food and beverage locations.
  • Participate in inventory management of bottled water, snacks and medical equipment for catskiing operations.
  • Guiding for catskiing operation, snowshoe tours or backcountry tours as needed.
  • Participation in UTA rideshare program.
WHAT YOU NEED TO GET THE JOB DONE
  • PRO 1 certification.
  • AMGA certifications, or applicants on the AMGA track preferred.
  • Current first responder certification, OEC or WFR minimum.
  • Minimum 7 years' experience managing avalanche terrain as a backcountry ski/snowboard guide, or as a ski patroller regularly running mitigation routes.
  • AIARE avalanche education certifications, instructor or course leader, preferred.
  • Previous experience managing peers in a high stress environment.
  • Solutions-oriented positive attitude for making the most out of changing conditions and situations.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
WORK SCHEDULE
  • Must be able to work any day of the week, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work shifts will be 10 hours long, starting at 6:45 am each day.
  • Season is typically Mid-November to Mid-April.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Must be prepared to stay overnight, if necessary, on occasional times of road closures.
  • May experience unusual stress from continual work with public, winter conditions and commuting to/from Snowbird.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • At times, work will be outdoors and require exposure to cold and other extreme weather conditions.
