A diverse, qualified, and engaged talent base is the key to our success.SummaryThe Operator 1 Material Control performs various types of material handling work, including moving parts and supplies throughout the plant with forklifts and/or overhead cranes, loading and/or unloading material onto/from truck trailers with forklifts and/or overhead cranes, and learning to perform inventory cycle counts.Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.Maintains information regarding which parts and supplies go to various production areas and ensures that these areas are fully stockedOperates forklift and overhead cranes to move material into position to produce railcar parts and sub-assembliesEnsures that equipment is maintained and operating properly before beginning workReads and comprehends blueprints or weld drawings and proceduresLoads and/or unloads materials onto/from truck trailers using forklift and/or overhead cranesActively engages in learning to conduct inventory counts to maintain a correct perpetual inventory countTrains to become efficient in cycle counting process, which includes counting material as it comes through and comparing it to what is shown in the system. Working with key members of the department as well as corporate to ensure accurate counts.Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met and maintainedQualificationsThe following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.Minimum QualificationsAbility to read and comprehend blueprints and work instructionsAbility to work in a team or independentlyAbility to obtain in-house forklift certificationPreferred QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalency test/GEDWork Environment and Physical RequirementsWork EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
