TITLE:Operator III REPORTS TO: Administrator, Lead Operator or DesigneeSUPERVISES: NoneGENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates, and maintains the wastewater treatment plant's facilities.
- Establishes and maintains effective sample procedures of plant operations and effluent.
- Diagnose operating problems and directs and performs necessary corrective action during work shift.
- Prepares required reports and maintains complete record-keeping procedures.
- Assists in directing and training employees.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs any combination of the following tasks pertinent to controlling operation of plant as directed.
- Responsible for the operation of a wastewater treatment plant or plant process on an assigned shift.
- Performs duties of Lead Operator in the absence of same.
- Gives instructions to plant operators.
- Maintains discipline and ensures proper procedures are followed.
- Performs operations and maintenance activities including taking samples and performing routine laboratory tests and analyses.
- Inspects equipment to locate needed repairs and maintenance.
- Makes process control adjustments, reads gauges and meters, records data, prepares necessary shift and log reports.
- Determines proper chemical flow rates.
- Participates in the technical training of plant operators.
- Assigns operators to designated shifts.
- Assigns replacement operators during emergency situations.
- May be required to fill in for operators in their absence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4-7 years experience in operating wastewater treatment plants
- Possess and maintain a valid state of CT motor vehicle operator's license.
- Thorough knowledge of computer operations and SCADA systems. Able to make spreadsheet and word processing documents, and enter information into data management systems.
- ***Operator certification at a level required by the State and City (Class III). ***
- Very knowledgeable of the principles and practices of wastewater treatment plant operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of water analyses, and bacteriological and chemical sewage analyses; effects and problems of industrial waste in wastewater treatment processes, principles of supervision and training; safe work practices
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to transport self over plant facility, typically not less than 3 miles per 8 hour shift.
- Must be able to ascend and descend stairs, typically not less than 1,100 stair steps per 8 hour shift.
- Must be able to lift bags weighing up to 50 pounds each from floor level up to waist high in an 8-hour shift, typically not less than 45 bags per 8 hour shift.
- Must be able to bend frequently to collect samples.
- Must be able to push a power lawn mower for up to 3 hours per 8-hour shift.
- Must be able to work in all types of weather.
