R.J. Corman Railroad Company is currently seeking a Operator / Laborer to join our team in the Houston, TX area.Accountability:Operates specialized equipment in support of inspection, installation, and maintenance of railroad track Responsibilities:
- Operate specialized equipment. (i.e. Backhoe, etc.)
- Performs preventative maintenance on heavy or specialized equipment
- Maintains proper equipment appearance and cleanliness
- May perform labor duties as needed
- Communicates with supervisor throughout the job process
- Ensures working conditions are safe and that proper PPE is being used as job duties require
- Follow DOT regulations; ensuring proper permits and driving regulations are followed
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:
- Demonstrated operation experience and equipment knowledge.
- Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot simple mechanical failures.
- Previous experience in railroad construction or maintenance preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to perform physical strenuous work
- Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs
- Requires occasional use of 30lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50lbs of force
- Requires occasional use of 10lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75lbs of force
- Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
- Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary
Environmental Conditions: Work is performed outside in varying types of environmental conditions.Job Dimensions: Interfaces with all levels of employees and management. Performs duties under general supervision with limited discretion. Does not directly supervise employees. Must carry out responsibilities in a fast-paced outside RR / construction environment. Requires efficient development and performance of processes; and requires ability to multi-task in a time sensitive environment. High visibility position requires professional demeanor in interactions with Supervisors, employees, contractors and customers. Benefits: R.J.
