The Bedford-Stuyvesant Family Health Center (BSFHC) is a patient-centered, team based multi-specialty practice that has a full-time opportunity available for a Pediatrician in central Brooklyn. BSFHC has been providing affordable, comprehensive, outpatient medical and dental services in an outpatient setting for over 40 years. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), BSFHC serves all of the primary health care needs of families in the heart of North and Central Brooklyn. Our mission is to provide the most professional, courteous and highest quality health care, with dignity, to those we serve, especially the undeserved population, without regard for ability to pay. We are looking for a part-time Optometrist, someone who is self-motivated, technically proficient and with great interpersonal skills to join our organization that prides itself in a great work culture. Physician will work closely with a team of professionals to provide culturally sensitive, high quality, comprehensive services to the community to achieve expected outcomes and comply with BSFHC Mission.The position requires 3 days - Friday with Alternate Saturday coverage.Responsibilities includes but not limited to:
  • Perform comprehensive eye exams to ensure accuracy in taking measurements and diagnosing ocular conditions.
  • Explain eye health and prescription terminology to patients.
  • Demonstrate exceptional product knowledge and effectively communicate features and benefits to patients.
  • Responsible for conducting pre-testing such as visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, pupil reflexes, visual field testing, pressure inside the eye and blood pressure; frame and lens selection, eyeglass adjustment.
  • Use the lensometer to obtain prescriptions. Fundus photography.
  • Prepare and maintain patient records and examination room area.
  • Handle some technical duties involving equipment and eyeglass preparation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry school
  • Valid state optometry license
  • DEA
  • Current CPR (BLS) certification
  • Minimum one year experience as an Optometrist
  • Other Related Skills/Experience:
  • Experience/An understanding of eClinical Works is helpful.
  • The ability to demonstrate teamwork and effective interpersonal relations skills is imperative.
  • Excellent written/oral communication and computer skills are required.
  • Ability to foster and maintain a positive working relationship in a multidisciplinary team and clients
