In support of high-quality patient care, we are currently seeking an experienced Orthopedic Technician to support our physician practices.

This is a float position where you may be scheduled to work in any of our area locations daily. Fast paced and challenging, you will interact with our physicians, patients, and other departments to provide the highest level of care for our patients. In this position, the Orthopedic Technician may regularly travel to our offices located in Hartford, South Windsor, Plainville, Farmington, Rocky Hill, Glastonbury, and Enfield; start times will vary daily and may be as early as 6:30 a.m. flexibility is a must!

Accountabilities:

  • Maintains a safe & clean environment for the patient
  • Performs suture and staple removal, and dressing changes
  • Applies immobilization materials and devices to patients according to medical provider orders and specifications
  • Prepares, applies, and removes casts and performs other related treatment modalities
  • Evaluates and adjusts sizes, materials, and/or equipment settings as necessary to meet specific patient needs and treatment objectives
  • Explains procedures and provides instruction on care and use of immobilization supplies and equipment to patients, families, and/or caregivers
  • Establishes supportive relationships with patients and families, identifying specific needs and incorporating into patient care as appropriate
  • Maintains equipment and supply inventory within assigned work area
  • Performs routine equipment cleaning, sterilizing and maintenance
  • Monitors work volume and patient flow, organizing and prioritizing workload to meet schedules and patient care requirements
  • Maintains effective communication with physicians, advanced practitioners, and co-workers
  • Inputs and verifies patient information

Requirements:

Requirements of this position include, but may not be limited to:

  • Two to three years of experience in a hospital, institution, or private practice setting as an orthopedic technician is preferred; clinical hands-on Medical Assistant, EMT, Athletic Trainer or higher education may substitute for experience
  • Knowledge of standard sterile techniques and principles/methods used in preparing, applying and removing casts
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with providers, staff, and patients and work productively and independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience working in a fast-paced setting with a diverse population and ability to be flexible and adapt to changes
  • Highly committed team player and proactive self-starter; reliable and able to be flexible in a changing environment
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • HS Diploma or GED
