This position is responsible for supporting key forums related to strategy and policy under the Assistant Secretary of Defense (ASD) for Strategy, Plans, and Capabilities (SPC). Specifically, this position will provide logistical support to several SPC initiatives and forums critical to advancing the most pressing policy and strategy issues for the Department of Defense. The duties of the position will center independent work to lead on planning, managing, and coordinating high-level (3 and 4 Star) engagements ranging between 20 and 50 participants, including by: maintaining up-to-date contact and distribution lists; confirming and managing participation, protocol and security arrangements, and logistical support for meetings; coordinating with counterpart organizations internal and external to the Department; developing substantive agendas and read ahead materials in coordination with relevant subject matter experts; producing summary readouts and follow-up memoranda from meetings; and managing the execution of follow-up efforts at the conclusion of key events.
The position will serve the following SPC initiatives and forums, and other SPC forums and initiatives as needed:
* The trilateral security partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States (AUKUS). The position would provide direct support to ODASD Force Development and Emerging Capabilities (FDEC) and will enable SPC/FDEC to support DoD senior leaders on a range of DoD engagements on AUKUS. At least four meetings per year at the SECDEF, USDP, or ASD level.
* The Defense Policy Board (DPB). Through the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy (USDP), the DPB provides SECDEF and DSD with independent, informed advice and recommendations on matters of defense policy in response to specific direction from the SECDEF, DSD, and USDP. This position would support the Designated Federal Official (DFO) of the DPB under ODASD Strategy. The DPB currently meets on a quarterly basis.
* The Defense Strategy Steering Group (DSSG). The DSSG directly supports the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) and Deputy Secretary of Defense (DSD) on the most pressing policy and strategy issues for the Department of Defense. Chaired by USDP and the Joint Staff Director for Strategy, Plans, and Policy (DJ5), in consultation with ASD SPC, the DSSG serves as a principal forum to review and assess Departmental-level guidance and major strategies. Approximately 12-24 DSSGs are held a year (1 to 2 per month).
* The Concepts Roundtable. This forum supports the DSD and the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (VCJCS) in coordinating work within the Department on the development of warfighting concepts. ASD SPC co-Chairs the 3-Star level Concepts Roundtable in cooperation with the Joint Staff. This position would support ODASD STRs management of this forum. There are 8 Concept Roundtable meetings per year 6 meetings at the 3 Star level and 2 meetings held for the Deputy Secretary of Defense and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In addition, there are typically two Action Officer level meetings required to support each senior leader engagement.
