Job Summary: A Fiber Aerial Crewman is a professional who works in the telecommunication industry to install, maintain, and repair fiber optic cables that are installed overhead on aerial utility poles. As a Fiber Aerial Crewman, your primary responsibility is to ensure that the fiber optic network is installed correctly and functioning at optimal levels. Additionally, you may need to operate equipment, such as bucket trucks and cable trailers, to transport and install fiber optic cables. You will be required to adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while working at heights and using specialized equipment. Overall, a Fiber Aerial Crewman plays a critical role in ensuring that telecommunication services are available to businesses and individuals by installing and maintaining a reliable and efficient fiber optic network.   • Must be able to run and safely operate a bucket truck
  • Must have critical thinking skills in potentially high stress situations
  • Ability to communicate in person and by telephone, even at odd hours of the night
  • Ability to use any equipment in a safe manner, in accordance with company, industry and regulatory standards
  • Works on regularly scheduled days as well as unscheduled days and beyond regular work hours as required
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
  • Ability to work independently and with others
  • Able to work in all-weather conditions
  • Safely operate and use bucket truck to complete maintenance assignments
  • Work within a team environment to ensure the full job scope is completed within the scheduled timeframe
  • Reach, push, pull, hold, grasp and perform fine manipulation task on cable
  • Must be willing to work during holidays or during planned events due to the nature of this role, as needed by the company
  • Trenching and installing PVC conduit
  • Shoveling and raking dirt and gravel
  • Daily maintenance and cleanliness of worksite
  • The ability to safely pull a trailer
  • Have the ability to take direction from the onsite Foreman or Supervisor
  • Ability to clean and restore job sites to the original starting conditions
  • Responsible for company provided vehicle, trailer, tools, equipment, and supplies
  • Must be able to inspect and maintain the fiber optic cables to ensure they are functioning correctly.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Experience with fiber tools

Work Environment/Hazards:
  • Outdoor elements and working with aerial plant
  • In proximity of heavy machinery and moving vehicles
  • Working close to power transformers
  • Moderate to loud noise levels
  • Use of PPE
Physical Demands:
  • Climbing ladders, crouching, balance, kneel, stoop
  • Working in all weather conditions
  • Stationary position for 8-10 hours a day
  • Frequently moving, transporting, positioning objects of 50 pounds or more
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms
Working Hours/Days:
  • Full time
  • Monday thru Friday
  • Possible weekends
  • Flexible schedule
  • Overtime as needed
Travel Requirements:
  • 80% travel required
