Job Summary: The Utility Distribution Outage Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing both scheduled and unscheduled outages for the utility distribution network. This role ensures effective communication, coordination, and adherence to safety practices to minimize customer disruption and restore service as quickly and safely as possible.
Key Responsibilities: - Outage Planning and Coordination:
- Develop and manage outage plans, schedules, and procedures in collaboration with field operations, engineering, customer service and other departments.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including contractors, customers, and regulatory bodies, to ensure all parties are prepared for outages.
- Assess the impact of outages on the distribution network and develop strategies to minimize disruptions.
- Communication and Reporting:
- Act as the primary contact during outages, providing clear and timely updates to all stakeholders, including internal teams, customers, and regulatory agencies.
- Maintain real-time updates on outage status, estimated restoration times, and any schedule changes.
- Prepare and distribute outage reports detailing causes, impacts, and lessons learned to improve future planning and response strategies.
- Ensure timely and accurate communication to customers regarding planned outages and any schedule changes.
- Transcribe outage requests from the EPC to Entergy Customer Service and review customer counts by outage for upstream devices to ensure proper notification.
- Operational Oversight:
- Monitor and oversee outage activities to ensure compliance with safety protocols, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate field crews, materials, and equipment to ensure efficient outage restoration.
- Analyze outage data and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all outage activities comply with safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct post-outage reviews and implement improvements to enhance safety and efficiency.
- Support the development and implementation of emergency response plans for unplanned outages and natural disasters.
Qualifications: - Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in utility distribution operations or outage management.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Utility Management, Business Management, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of utility distribution systems, outage management practices, and safety regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Org Plus, Outlook, SharePoint, and internet applications.
- Experience with outage management software (AMFM) and GIS systems (GDT); proficiency in MS Excel is essential.
- Basic understanding of construction tasks and their impact on outage durations.
- Ability to identify distribution protective devices on feeder maps and a basic understanding of electric distribution systems.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with standard construction practices, safe operation of construction equipment, and distribution construction.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to utility outages.
- OSHA 30-hour training required.
- Experience working in group settings and with governmental agencies.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Physical ability to perform outdoor work and wear all required PPE.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and pass a background check, MVR check, and drug screening.
