The Outdoor Adventure program focuses on making outdoor recreation and education accessible, appealing, and fun for a diverse CU Denver student population. The ideal candidate is adaptable, innovative, and creative, team oriented, student focused, and pays particular attention to interpersonal skills and communication, while acting with initiative and integrity.
The Outdoor Adventure Coordinator will specifically provide guidance to the Outdoor Adventure program which includes the adventure gear rental shop, bike and ski shop, climbing wall and Adventure Trip program. This individual will also focus on the experiential learning initiatives of the department of Wellness and Recreation Services in collaboration with both curricular and co-curricular partners.
Outdoor Adventure Coordinator
What you will do:
Oversee an Outdoor Adventure program that includes adventure trips, climbing wall, bike and Ski shop, and equipment rental center.
Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate all student employees and Graduate program Assistant.
Manage the Outdoor Adventure equipment inventory, upkeep, repair, and offer purchasing recommendations to the Assistant Director.
Manage daily operations and programming within the bike and ski shop, gear rental and climbing wall areas.
Work with Assistant Director to develop and monitor the budget for Outdoor Adventure.
Risk Management – assist with oversight, design, and assessment of all program aspects to ensure industry standards and university policies are fulfilled.
Development/delivery of marketing strategies for the Outdoor Adventure program with appropriate entities
Develop programs and education targeting student populations who are traditionally less likely to participate in outdoor recreation.
Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
A bachelor's degree in recreation, sports management, education, health sciences, physical sciences, higher education, or a directly related field from an accredited institution
Substitution\: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
Master's Degree in recreation, sports management, higher education, or related field.
Experience working in a higher education setting.
Experience supervising, training and evaluating student staff.
Knowledge and experience with current industry standards and risk management standards for indoor climbing facilities.
Current member of industry associations (AORE, AEE, NIRSA, etc.).
Wilderness First Aid Instructor (WFA-Instructor) certification from reputable provider.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
Outstanding customer service skills.
Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
Professional involvement in organizations like the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE) and other related organizations
Conditions of Employment
Ability to work variable schedule which may include early mornings or evenings, as well as weekends and nights, and the ability to attend on and off campus events.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $47,476 - $50,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
