Position Summary
Position responsible for everyday operational tasks at assigned Park locations or Aquatic Center under the supervision and direction of the Park and/or Aquatic Manager.
Position Responsibilities
Provides overall supervision of programs, services, facilities, and personnel.
Supervises and implements recreational programs in the core service areas of aquatics, youth and family and special needs programs.
Maintains aquatic facility providing the highest attention to safety for participants and employees including proper on deck supervision of staff, appropriate levels of lifeguard coverage, lifeguard attentiveness, proper lifeguard rotations, facility inspections and closing facility or attractions when required by health and safety guidelines.
Maintains and operates aquatic facility providing the highest attention to water quality and balance.
Maintains detailed record keeping for facility inspections, in-service training, water testing, chemical applications, controller settings, pool mechanical equipment, third party and employee accident reports, cash reports, program registration, class attendance and swim lesson records.
Assists supervisor who recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, disciplines and advises on-site personnel and volunteers including Head Lifeguards, Lifeguards, Pool Operators, Deck Attendants and Cashiers. Maintains ongoing lifeguard and staff in-service training.
Assists Supervisor who implements and evaluates aquatic programs and services at location in accordance with the Departmental and designated aquatic program guidelines and protocol.
Responsible for proper collecting and depositing of revenues, financial accountability, and record keeping.
Supervises the training and monitoring of adherence to departmental policy and procedure at aquatic location.
Responsible for opening, closing and securing facility, answering phones and communicating with public.
Maintains clean facility, grounds, deck, filter and chemical rooms.
Lifeguards, scans assigned zone of protection, rule enforcement, proper rotation, and providing safety assistance, rescues, emergency actions and first aid when necessary. Monitors participants and users of the facility.
Provides the highest attention to safety for participants, self and fellow employees. Follows all established protocol for biohazard materials.
Follows all aquatic facility rules and protects self from sun exposure.
Reports any hazardous conditions to supervisor including inability to properly scan zone due to weather or other conditions immediately.
Maintains minimum number of in-service hours required by department and meet minimum standards for both independent and internal performance audits.
Teaches, coaches, or assists with lessons, swim team, other programs and special events at location in accordance with the designated swim lesson and water adjustment program guidelines and protocol.
Provides for the supervision and safe operation of all aquatic programs based on Department and designated aquatic risk management and life guarding entity's training and protocol.
Adheres to department policy and procedure at aquatic location.

Qualifications
Must be enrolled in school or have High School diploma and /or GED and a minimum of two (2) years prior related experience in Aquatic Operations. Requires a thorough knowledge of pool and water chemistry and operations to include water testing and chemical applications, chemical controller calibration, set points and operation, chemical pump operation, back washing of pool filters, cleaning strainer baskets, slide and play feature motor operation, pool heater operation, pool vacuuming, vacuum operation and maintenance, chemical and supply ordering and inventory. Licenses/Certifications required or ability to obtain: Lifeguard Instructor and Lifeguard License, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, CPR and First Aid Teaching Certificate, Aquatic Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator Certification, Indiana Public Passengers Chauffeurs License. Position will require a respiratory physical and fit test for chemical face mask, maintenance and chemical handling procedures training. Job knowledge and experience in Aquatic Operations. Experience in training and supervising employees. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks. Ability to communicate effectively. Customer service and people oriented. Ability to follow established procedures, policies and protocol.
Independent Judgment
Established policies and procedures control actions. Independent judgment is utilized when there are no available policies and procedures and errors in judgment may cause serious risk and significant liability. Required to exercise good judgment in the areas of aquatic safety and facility operations. This position will require an individual who is able to make quick, concise and correct decisions that may affect the health, safety and well being of pool patrons and staff. This position will work under the supervision of the Park Manager.
