General Purpose of Job:The staff nurse (RN) is a Licensed Registered Nurse who provides direct nursing care to assigned patient/patient population. The staff nurse utilizing the nursing process, plans, and delivers effective patient care within the frame work of Driscoll Children's Hospital vision of excellence and integrated care delivery. The staff nurse complies within the established standards and clinical guidelines reflective of evidence-based best practice. The practice of the staff nurse contributes to creating an environment that is patient-focused-family centered and designed to provide continuation of care and patient self-care competencies across the continuum.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Essential functions and behavioral expectations:- Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
- Keys data into computer to maintain office and patient records.
- Works as a team to provide family-centered care as a member of a multidisciplinary team, which includes CMA's, RNs, NPs, PAs, Physicians, and administrative support staff.
- Triage of patients done daily on patients on the schedule for the following week, and at least 2 weeks in advance for satellite clinics.
- Critical thinking skills necessary when reviewing patient chart to ensure appropriate scheduling.
- Ensures referrals ordered for follow-up appointments have been completed such as therapies, imaging studies, ophthalmology referrals etc.
- Attention to detail when reviewing schedule to determine if a coordination of visits is possible.
- Will assist in other service lines as needed including Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Urology.
- Travel is mandatory to satellite clinics to help support the Neurosurgery travel team.
- Spanish speaking skills preferred
Helping/Teaching:- Identifies barrier to learning, develops and implements discharge plan based on patient/family needs.
- Incorporates cultural aspects of illness/hospitalization for patient/family into the plan of care.
- Established and maintains a therapeutic relationship with patient and family.
- Decreases apprehension and anxiety using individualized interventions to ensure patient comfort dignity.
- Functions as a patient/family advocate seeking direction as needed to provide safe, effective, efficient, and timely care.
- Provides education to families on discharge, performs follow up nurse visits to ensure patient goals are being met.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations.- Licensed in State of Texas as an RN
- BLS Certified / AHA
- Certification in specialty preferred
- Valid Driver License
