Job DetailsJob LocationSonora - Sonora, CASalary Range$22.00 - $27.00 HourlyDescriptionPOSITION TITLE:Behavioral Health Outreach Peer Support SpecialistREPORTSTO:Behavioral Health DirectorSUPERVISES: NonePOSITION STATUS:Non-ExemptBENEFITS:Per PolicyUPDATED:September 18, 2024SALARY: $27.00/HOURThis is a categorically funded position for 18 months from date of hire.POSITION SUMMARY:The BH Peer support outreach specialist must possess knowledge of local mental health programs and community resources. Will provide navigation services with clients including assessment of needs, linkage, facilitation, care coordination, evaluation and advocacy for options and services to meet an individual's and family's needs through communication and resources to promote well-being. They will adhere to all applicable legal and ethical standards for Mental and Behavioral health job functions. Ability to work effectively with cultural/ethnic diversity among our Me-Wuk Native population and Tuolumne County residents.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (Include but are not limited to the following)This role emphasizes strong communication skills in oral, written, and typing forms, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA regulations. Teamwork with administration and staff is essential, along with the flexibility to work across various settings such as client homes and community events. Physical and emotional well-being are key, and the role involves driving a company vehicle for work-related activities.Responsibilities include linking clients to behavioral health services, conducting outreach at community events, setting goals, and tracking program outcomes. The employee will work within a multi-disciplinary team, maintain records, ensure safety, and apply crisis prevention techniques such as de-escalation and suicide assessment protocols.Additional duties involve attending required meetings and trainings, reporting suspected abuse or imminent danger, and supporting outreach initiatives as directed by supervisors. All tasks align with the department's mission to promote community health and engagement.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:Education and Experience:Pattern 1: Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, school counseling or related field. OrPattern 2: Three years of related experience in BH agency and, or, currently enrolled in bachelor's program in a related field. Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of community resources and Native American preferred. Experience working with Native American population in a healthcare setting 2+ years preferred.Requirements:Must have a valid California Driver's License (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire) and personal automobile insurance with $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury and $100,000 property damage or a combined limit of $300,000 single limit. Must have a clean driving record and be insurable and eligible for coverage under TMWIHC policies. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Walking, standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time; climbing step-stools, etc.; stooping, kneeling, crouching and reaching; pushing, pulling and lifting up to 30 pounds; raising objects overhead; manual dexterity for operation of computer, phones and small office machines; hearing, talking and good verbal and written communication skills; repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers.INDIAN PREFERANCE:Preference in filling vacancies will be given to qualified Native American or Alaskan Native Applicants, in accordance with the Indian preference Act (Title 25, U.S. Code Section 472 and 473) and Public Law 93-638, provided the applicant has submitted appropriate verification of Indian preference for employment.
