Job Type Part-timeDescriptionPOSITION: Outreach SpecialistREPORTS TO: Family & Community Services DirectorSALARY: As per agency salary schedule FLSA: Non-ExemptHYBRID WORK: IneligibleJOB SUMMARY: The person in this position works closely to ensure the efficient operation of the county outreach office.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Obtain necessary client information for program applications.Responsible for accurate applications based on program rules and regulations.Obtain and verify documents necessary for low-income residents to participate in respective programs.Assess client needs and make appropriate recommendations for services in consultation with Director.Refer low-income participants to other agencies and cooperate with other agencies on client follow-up.Encourage low-income residents to become involved in offered programs and projects designed for individual and community improvement.Maintain accurate records of all programs and participants.Work closely with administration and management for timely submission of administrative reports and other requirements.Conduct annual inventory of center equipment.Receive donations (food, money, volunteerism) from community members and follow up with a thank you and in-kind documentation.Act as receptionist; answering phone, scheduling appointments.Attend meetings / trainings as required.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Act as information source for available programs to clients and public.Travel to homebound clients when necessary.Assist in recruitment of volunteers.Assist with fundraiser as directed and needed.Access, input and retrieve information on computer.Viable means of transportation, and evidence of insurance, valid Iowa driver's license and acceptable driving record.Other duties as assigned.RequirementsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Preferred high school diploma or equivalent.Must have interest in and understanding of needs of low-income population.Good communication skills, both written and verbal.Computer experience preferred.Excellent data entry/keyboarding skills.Office organizational skills.Viable means of transportation, evidence of insurance, valid Iowa driver's license and acceptable driving record.Ability to perform medium heavy physical work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on occasion, up to 20-30 pounds frequently, and up to 5-10 pounds constantly, performing such activities a stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, including some duties requiring repetitive motion for limited amounts of time, such as typing or computer work.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the person assigned to this position.
