We best serve our students, colleagues, and community when we work as a team.*Contingent upon grant funding.*Application will not be considered until ALL required documents are received.****POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED****GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:Promote and represent McLennan Community College and other higher education institutions in the community through various avenues with the intention of reaching prospective students and providing comprehensive knowledge of services available to them and an understanding of how to access them to achieve their educational goal as efficiently as possible. This position receives general direction from the Project Director, TRIO Education Opportunity Centers, and exercises no supervision. The Outreach Specialist position requires the ability to work after business hours or weekends for outreach programs. NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.SELECTION CRITERIA:The cover letter should address how the following knowledge, skills, and abilities were acquired:Knowledge of: 1. Personal Financial literacy and financial aid processes 2. Basic postsecondary enrollment procedures. 3. Strengths and challenges of nontraditional/adult learners, and strategies to foster student success. 4. Applicable federal, state, and campus rules and regulations. 5. Barriers to postsecondary education faced by low income, disabled, potential first-generation, and service members, Veterans, and their families. 6. Career counseling, academic advising, instruction, and recruitmentSkills in: 7. achieving measurable outcomes within desired timelines (time management, goal setting). 8. using Microsoft Office, and other software applications required to complete the responsibilities of the position. 9. working with adults 19 years and older in a college setting.Ability to: 10. establish and maintain collaborative relationships with residents, schools, community partners, other MCC departments, participants and students. 11. effectively communicate orally and in writing. 12. present in front of small and large groups. 13. travel daily to work off campus to identify, recruit, select, and enroll participants. 14. attend work-related meetings and conferences on and off campus, including nights and weekends as necessary. 15. meet weekly and monthly project goals. 16. work with limited English-speaking students and diverse populations. 17. work with disadvantaged student populations, low income, first generation students, individuals with disabilities, and those with a military connection. 18. build rapport and maintain an appropriate level of professionalism with all levels within and outside the program.WORKING CONDITIONS:Restricted-Sustained posture, for prolonged periods; light lifting, some walking, pushing, pulling on a regular basis. Minimal Hazard/Exposure-Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls are in place to assure health and comfort. QUALIFICATIONS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. (A minimum of 12 college credits plus relevant work experience may be substituted for required degree).Experience: More than one year of work experience.Special Requirements: Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license. Must be insurable and maintain insurability under the College's automobile insurance policy.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Special: Preference will also be given to individuals that demonstrate professional or personal experience overcoming similar barriers to the Project Participants.
